Jali Kunda

The artists of Jali Kunda have extensive and varied experiences that they bring to their performance of West African music. Jali Kunda debuted in April, 2010 at The Coffee House. Keba Diabate, the founder of Jali Kunda came from Senegal, West Africa. He was born into a griot family of African storytellers and praise singers whose primary work involved dance, music and storytelling passed from one generation to the next. Keba, master of drums and kora (African harp) learned traditional rhythms, dances, songs and stories from family members. He began formal training at the age of 13 as a percussionist and korist. He has performed extensively in West Africa and now shares his music with music lovers in the US.
