Bio

World…get ready for Genius Records recording artist… Jamari. This talented new songwriter, singer, musician AND rapper combines soulful Hip Hop and R&B with an infectious rap flow, creating original music with live piano, bass and guitar. No one in the world can play guitar and rap at the same time as well as he can. His groundbreaking tribute to women in entertainment ….”My Fantasy”…is blowing up fast and many believe it's destined for a Grammy. It’s loved by men and women alike and recently had its radio debut on KJLH in Los Angeles.

His song “Hustler’s Blues” mixes a funky blues guitar rhythm with a smooth rap style that delivers words of wisdom about the realities of hustling in the streets these days. It’s sure to bridge generation gaps. “Head to the Sky” reveals Jamari’s spiritual depth—grounded in a conflicting life of faith and challenging experiences— as he raps to a haunting, melodic beat true to the west coast sound. The hook grabs you immediately: “Ridin’ in the car with my head to the sky, never do I know if I’m gon’ live or will I die.”

Jamari writes and performs Hip Hop and R&B from his soul, music that touches your spirit. Check out his smash hit “Talk to Me” featuring SRC/Unviersal Records recording artist Shire’. “Would You Ride,” “Say She Got a Man” and “This Feeling” are smooth R&B songs showcasing Jamari’s signature sound—some call it neo soul—Jamari just calls it Soul. “Say She Got a Man” and “This Feeling” have Jamari displaying his undeniable gift with the guitar and, along with “Would You Ride,” reveal his “raspy, sexy, smooth lovin’ voice,” as one fan put it. This same fan said “…your lyrics are passionate and that is part of the reason I love your songs…even when it sounds like you may be angry there is passion.”

The surprise will be the soul Jamari pours into making his rock songs. Rock songs? Yes, rock songs. Even if you don’t like rock, there’s a good chance you’ll love his rock. He’s the first Hip Hop artist to actually create rock songs that are reminiscent of Jimmy Hendrix. His song, “Baby,” is a rock classic, infused with a rap verse that offers a glimpse into what the future holds for Jamari’s fans who love both Hip Hop and rock.

Jamari Harcum, a.k.a. J the Genius, hailing from Baltimore and now living in L.A., is a music artist who cannot be easily categorized.
