Cinematic... layered over a bed of rock, jazz, classical and even electronic... beyond anything else, James Collin's music sounds like you're watching a movie.

Biography

James Collin is an instrumental musician and composer based in Chicago IL. His style ranges from ambient electronic to blues, rock and even classical genres, although a sense of minimalism pervades most of his work.

As a youth he first picked up the piano, principally instructed by Franciscan nuns, then promptly forgot most of his teachings. The next instrument to strike his fancy was trumpet, upon entering middle school. He quickly progressed to guitar and voice, as any good lad should, helped by his fellow troublemakers throughout high school. He attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and then Michigan State University, where he briefly studied music theory and joined the glee club. All through these years, James Collin co-wrote and performed with several local bands.

James is influenced by numerous artists and genres, chiefly minimalists and jazz musicians, as well as more recent, popular artists. His work carries very cinematic and emotional qualities and seems to tell stories and paint pictures with harmony and melody.

He has performed live, either solo or with an ensemble, on several occasions, at coffee shops, art galleries, basements and venues within the great state of Michigan.

James Collin resides in Chicago, IL and performs live with friends in the area.

Lyrics

Timorous

Written By: James Collin

Why, can't I just ignore, all the pain, all the hate in the world?
What, can make me feel this way?
Everything I do, everything I say is for naught.
How, can I change my thoughts, can I change my doubts, and lead a better life?

What are we fighting for?
Who is this unknown enemy?
How is this going to solve anything, and keep our fears away?

My childhood is a blur.
Was I traumatized? What have I to hide from?
All I have of then is somehow lost - vague impressions of, the moments in between.
But, the way that we live now, seems so separate from, everything I know.

What are we fighting for?
Who is this unknown enemy?
How is this going to solve anything, and keep our fears away?

J'avais Envie

Written By: James Collin & Bruno Gatinet

J'avais envie, j'avais envie

J'avais envie, j'avais envie

J'avais envie, oui j'avais envie
j'avais envie de revenir
mais nos envies et nos avis
nos envies n'étaient plus les mêmes

Tu avais envie, tu avais envie
tu avais envie de revenir
mais nos envies et nos avis,
nos aveux n'étaient plus les mêmes,
plus les mêmes.
