n den kommenden fünf Wochen wird trainiert
Die "Dancing Stars" sind zurück. Am Montag hat der ORF die zwölf Paarungen für die sechste Staffel der Tanzshow vorgestellt, die am 11. März starten wird. Bis dorthin heißt es vor allem: trainieren. An die 50 Stunden müssen die Promiteilnehmer mit ihren Profipartnern bis dorthin absolvieren. Das Teilnehmerfeld ist bunt: Von Ex-Skirennläufern Alexandra Meissnitzer über Entertainer Alfons Haider zu Ex-Schwimmerin Mirna Jukic reicht die Palette.
Die Paarungen
Die Paarungen wurden in einer großen Gala vorgestellt. Dieter Chmelar tanzt mit Kathrin Menzinger, Sänger James Cottriall mit Roswitha Wieland, der österreich-türkische Schauspieler Mike Galeli mit Julia Polai, Alfons Haider mit Vadim Garbuzov und Mirna Jukic mit Gerhard Egger. Gemeinsam mit Schauspielerin Christine Kaufmann tritt Werner Figar an, Musical-Star Uwe Kröger tanzt mit Babsi Koitz, Alexandra Meissnitzer mit Florian Gschaider und Kabarettist Reinhard Nowak mit Kelly Kainz. Astrid Wirtenberger von der Formation "Die Seer" wird das Parkett mit Balasz Ekker betreten, Musiker Markus Wolfahrt mit Alice Guschelbauer und "Niederösterreich heute"-Moderatorin Cathy Zimmermann tanzt mit Christoph Santner.
Neuerungen gibt es heuer bei der Jury, die jede Woche um einen Promi ergänzt wird. Fixer Bestandteil bleiben Nicole Burns-Hansen, Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer und Hannes Nedbal. Als Moderatorin fungiert erneut Mirjam Weichselbraun, die gemeinsam mit Klaus Eberhartinger durch die Sendung führen wird. Der EAV-Frontman saß bei der jüngsten Staffel in der Jury.
In der ersten Runde (11. März) stellen sich nur die Paare mit Profitänzerinnen dem Voting von Publikum und Jury. In der zweiten Runde am 18. März treten die Paare mit männlichen Profitänzern an. Bewertet werden die individuellen Darbietungen mit bis zu zehn Punkten. Die "Dancing Stars" werden am Ende der Sendung nach ihrer Gesamtpunkteanzahl gereiht - das Paar mit der höchsten Wertung erhält bis zu zehn Punkte (abhängig von der Kandidatenanzahl), das Paar mit der niedrigsten erhält einen Punkt. Neben der Jury kann auch das Publikum mittels Televoting mitbestimmen.
Ab der dritten Ausgabe am 1. April treten alle im Bewerb verbliebenen Paare in acht weiteren Shows gegeneinander an. Das Finale am 27. Mai bestreiten schließlich drei "Dancing Stars"-Paare.
ORF-Programmdirektor Wolfgang Lorenz lobte die Show, die der ORF ab 2005 nach britischem Vorbild adaptierte und die sich als Quotenbringer mit Zuschauerzahlen über der Millionengrenze entpuppte. Das Finale der jüngsten Staffel im Jahr 2009 war allerdings von sinkendem Publikumsinteresse gekennzeichnet, eine mehrjährige Pause wurde angekündigt. Lorenz drückte das so aus: "Wir wurden oft dafür gescholten, dass wir 'Dancing Stars' vergangenes Jahr nicht im Programm hatten. Ohne diese Pause hätten wir eine solche Besetzung aber nicht zusammengebracht - und das Ergebnis spricht für sich." "Netter" Gig im Chelsea

Die Liebe führte ihn vor vier Jahren von Shakespeares Geburtsstadt Stratford-upon-Avon nach Wien, wo er heute Abend mit seinem heiß ersehnten Sommer-Sonne-Surfersound die Seele zum Baumeln bringt. Los geht’s um 20 Uhr, der Eintritt ist frei.
Album ab 15. Oktober, dann geht’s auf Tournee
Für alle, die sich den Gänsehaut-Gig nicht live geben können, drückt Radio Arabella morgen, Samstag, ab 20 Uhr auf die Repeat-Taste.
Und das ist längst nicht alles: Seit heute ist die neue Single „So Nice“ auf dem Markt, am 15. Oktober folgt das Album. Und danach geht’s endlich auf große Austro-Tournee! Topchancen hat James, der privat am liebsten The Police und Michael Jackson aus den Verstärkern jagt, auch auf einen Amadeus Award in der Sparte „bester Song“.

Normalerweise wandern hoffnungsvolle Musiker ins Pop-Mekka England aus, um hier ihr Glück zu versuchen. James Cottriall aus dem Shakespeare’schen Stratford-upon-Avon machte es genau andersherum: Er kehrte seiner Heimat den Rücken und feierte seinen großen Durchbruch in Österreich.

Like anyone, my life is made up of lots of little things, but, above all, passion, place and love have made me who I am today. I grew up in the countryside of Warwickshire, England, just outside Stratford-upon-Avon. I studied German at the university of Nottingham and that is where the story really starts. As part of the course, it is necessary to complete one year abroad, in this case in a German-speaking country. I chose Austria and after an extremely chaotic and stressful 38 hour flight from London Heathrow I found myself in the historic capital city, beautiful Vienna.
In the spring of 2007 I had my first ever solo concert. After my neighbour heard me
singing Snow Patrol’s “Run” in the shower, she challenged me to perform in the bar
where I was working as a waiter. I didn’t trust myself to play any of my own songs, so
I played one hour of covers. It was a success and turned into a weekly event. Before
long, I started playing “Sunshine” (which is the first song I ever wrote), “Goodbyes”
and “Unbreakable”. From that day I have never looked back. I always work my hardest
to achieve my goals and am not afraid to take risks to get there. I am hungry to prove
myself to those I love, but even more to skeptics. I am incredibly fortunate to have a
loving family, great friends and fantastic team around me.
I learnt a lot about myself when I made my first ever demo album. At first, it was very strange to listen to myself playing but it allowed to understand what I was trying to say even more. I could hear when I was singing with passion and when I was not. Scott Segal, who provides the piano on the recordings, helped me tremendously. Scott lives in Viriginia, USA, and has a great home studio. During the day I would record the guitars and then when he got home we got down to the piano sections. He would change, put on some hilarious “I’m in the zone!” hat and off we’d go. Some five hours later we would sit down and see what we had achieved that day and always felt proud. The twelve songs we made together became “Chapters of Innocence”, an intimate selection of demo recordings, including early versions of “Unbreakable” and “Goodbyes”. This album is no longer available and is the first chapter is James’ career.
2010:
Everything changed in 2010. I released my debut single “Unbreakable” on April 9th and it excelled even my wildest dreams and reached number 1 in the Ö3 Hörercharts (Most Requested Charts for Austria) and was in the Top 40 Charts for 20 weeks. The song is also featured on the “Ö3 Greatest Hits vol. 50”, “AustroPop Forever Vol. 4” and “Cafe Puls Hits” compilation albums!
The second single, “So Nice” was released on August 6th. Following the hurt and heartache of “Unbreakable”, “So Nice” focusses on a new love, happiness and a fresh start in life. It’s all about starting each day right and not getting caught up in the stress and pressures of everyday life. Run away from it all and do what makes you happy! The song is also featured on “Ö3 Greatest Hits vol. 52”.
The third single of 2010 was the winter warmer “Goodbyes” and was released on December 10th.
Influences:
Naturally, any musician is influenced by the music he listens to. In my case, Sting, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash and Bon Jovi are at the top of the list. All legends in music history, but other influences include Snow Patrol, U2, Placebo, InMe, Jason Mraz, David Bowie and Bob Dylan. At the end of the day, just give me some good music and I’ll be the guy with the biggest smile, especially on a hot summer’s day!
