Bio

Born and raised in western Canada, James Darr began playing the piano at the age of 4 before picking up the guitar at age 13. From his classical, less creative roots he quickly became interested in writing music and working with his own ideas, forming his first band when he was just 15 years old. His brother played bass and another teenage friend played the drums. Over the next six years he would go on to front many groups ranging in genre from "acoustic pop rock" to "heavier alternative punkish rock". Becoming weary of the dramatic band break-ups and constant personality conflicts, James decided to focus on writing music alone while delving more into the world of European Rock, piano and orchestra based music. He began writing music almost exclusively on the piano as opposed to the guitar which was a major adjustment. After writing and recording a few young rock projects from 2001-2006 he took some time away from it all before fully submersing himself in songwriting once again in mid 2007. The results speak for themselves on the debut EP which is available for download right here and the CD is available at www.jamesdarrmusic.com. The CD which was released April 21, 2009 online, is lush guitars, rich orchestral parts and melodic vocal melodies entrenched in mature lyrics. This EP outlines James' classical roots coming together with the influences of his youth to create his individual style of songwriting. Recorded with Producer Jeffery David in his Los Angeles studio, this record boasts such talent as Matt Bissonette (Joe Satriani, David Lee Roth, Daniel Glen Timms, Julian Lennon, Steve Perry, Brian Wilson, Don Henley, Ty Tabor (of King's X), Tom Andrews, and Peter Frampton) who plays the Cello and Electric Bass throughout the EP, Ben West (Keys/Loops) and Dan Strain on guitars.
