Perth singer-songwriter, James Gates returns from the shadows with a collection of songs recounting his time there. Writing as a means of self-care, his songs are confessions of the emotions that haunt us as life unfurls.
James’ first band, Wolves at the Door (formed with best friend, Ash Hendriks) toured nationally and landed notable supports for Tame Impala, The Middle East, Matt Corby & more, before parting ways to explore their own paths in 2012. In the years that followed, he committed himself to nurturing his craft and overcoming troublesome mental health issues. It’s these days spent with ghosts that birthed the artist before you.
Recorded entirely on an old iPhone, Days Spent As Ghosts. is unashamedly raw & exposed, shunning pristine production for open-hearted honesty. The result feels as though you’re there beside him, as he strums you through each haunting confession.
2019 will see James Gates release his music to the world. Out from the shadows and into the light.
