James Kamp

James Kamp is a singer-songwriter/musician living in the center of the U.S.A. outside Columbia, MO. After one album apiece with Dreams About Guns and The Fugitive Kind, James is on his own with his new third solo release, "With What I Got", which is just James on piano, guitar, harmonica, and vocals. The album ranges from doubt and sorrow to love, and includes two portraits, "Mae Gibson" and "Pauline", of inspiring people he's met working in nursing homes.
"Out Alive" was James' second solo release. The first, "Legacy", was an acoustic band outing that documented childhood and adult influences in the singer's life. "Out Alive" was James in 2005, after some tough years dealing with personal loss. This is the artist emerging from hard times to discover simple truths and profound joys, in people, spirit (in the classical sense; see Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Mozart, The Waterboys), and music. The sound of "Out Alive" is pure Rock-N-Roll.
At present, James is booking solo shows, singing and playing piano and guitar. He also plays with a 7-piece acoustic-electric band called Scatterlings that features violin, sax, piano, guitars, bass, and hand as well as trap drums. Other instruments James plays include alto sax, violin, harmonica, and bass guitar.
