...His exceptional voice and first rate guitar...
James Lee possesses exceptional talent in arranging.
Stanley stands outside the singer-songwriter and mainstream rock genres, tho his sound will appeal to both.
Rich Warren
- Sing Out Magazine
Not only is James Lee an excellent musician with a dynamic yet sensitive voice, but he is also a comedian...and a writer...and an actor (see Star Trek Deep Space Nine). All I can say is if James Lee comes to your area...go! It could very well be the most entertaining and the most divers show that you'll see all year. Besides, how else are you ever going to meet a real-life Bjoran?
- Songwriter's Monthly
This is one of those rare recordings (Freelance Human Being), a masterwork that you only come across once every few years and every few thousand albums. We're talking greatness here. Every song is a gem and I struggle to select any standouts as each is so wonderful. Lyrics are elegant and poetic. Each song could be a career maker for any other artist. Believe it: Freelance Human Being is a masterpiece in every respect. Truly one of the all time greats and one of the finest recordings I've ever been priviledged to hear.
- FI Magazine
All Wood and STones is a remarkable journey. Almost an out of body experience. I think Mick and Keith would approve, perhaps even be honored.
Jim Clark - Miami Herald
Stanley and Batdorf have turned the rock grooves inside out, adopted stylish arrangements and made no attempt to ape the originals, unveiling the elegance of teh melodies and allowing radically new interpretations of songs long tattooed in boomer DNA. Paint It Fresh.
Edna Gundersen - USA Today
Stanley proved to be a master at relating to night club audiences. Loose and jocular, he held the rapt audience in the palm of his hand.
Joel Selvin - San Francisco Chronicle

Bio
James Lee Stanley – "a diamond has been smuggled out of the wasteland" - tom robbins. a legendary singer/writer/performer, not only does James write beautiful, intelligent, well-crafted songs, but he sings and plays the guitar so well, he makes the whole thing look effortless! He also punctuates his performance with often downright hilarious repartee in between numbers. Truly a world class entertainer James Lee has shared the stage with such luminaries as Bonnie Raitt, Steven Wright, Nicolette Larson and Robin Williams. As a composer, James did have a Top-5 hit with Coming Out of Hiding. His Even Cowgirls Get the Blues was in heavy rotation at KEZX for three years. He also scored the emmy award-winning Cathy specials for prime time CBS. With more than 24 albums to his credit, this very prolific singer-songwriter has garnered some incredible praise over the years. FI magazine in their March 1999 issue hailed his solo album Freelance Human Being as a masterpiece and listed it as one of the top 200 CD's of all time, along with the likes of Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, and The Beatles. Among his most recent projects, a joint effort with longtime friend and collaborator John Batdorf, is All Wood and Stones; a "concept album", of eleven classic Rolling Stones songs, all done up "acoustic". The reviews have been so outstanding that he has done a follow up with the estimable Cliff Eberhardt, All Wood and Doors and featuring two of the original members of the Doors. James Lee also released his first solo CD in four years, Backstage At The Resurrection, 23 Jan 2011 For more on this remarkable entertainer, visit his website www.jamesleestanley.com, www.allwoodandstones.com, www.allwoodanddoors.com, or www.datamusicata.com .
