Bio
workhouse poets have been together in one form or another for the last thirty years. they reside in los gatos and hollister, ca, the heart of steinbeck country. they perform all original songs, written by james manganello and larry elrod. their music is driven by soulful harmonies, in the spirit of "the band", gram parsons, and many others. they started out performing covers of their favorite singers and storytellers such as bob dylan, woody guthrie, hank williams, john prine, bruce springsteen, gram parsons. the songs tell the sometimes sad tales of working class existence in the heartland of this country. stories of hoboes, waitresses, houswives trapped in sometimes dead end small town life. the songs oftentimes have an angry political undertone, as one travels with the workhouse poets through this landscape filled with the unprotected, underrepresented, and disillusioned.
