""A professional album""

Chart Magazine editor Karen Pace wrote, “This is a professional album of a calibre and quality that is indeed rare for a Canadian independent artist. Excellent arrangements and a mature sound augment James Miller’s song-writing and great vocals… an inspiring album wonderfully produced by David Matheson.”

"Spirit-Seeking Original Tunes"

“Talk about well kept secrets! Provocative soul-searching, spirit-seeking original tunes deserve a much wider audience. His playing is immaculate and his voice clear and rich on tunes that I’d describe as groove-folk. Very uplifting. See him soon.”

Bio

James is a familiar live performer in southern Ontario clubs, bringing his experience and adventures to life in song and music. Smooth vocals, seasoned song-writing and acoustic grooves roll through his melodic reflections.

Rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition and infused with energetic rhythmic elements of soul and pop, James carves a contemporary compelling trail in Canadian music.

Songs of love, solidarity, travel, rebellion, truth and transformation bring a rare immediacy to Miller’s work. Tunes written on the road during his travels to Africa, Tibet, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, the Caribbean, Peru, Ecuador, Australia and New Zealand give a unique scope to his soulful unguarded delivery.

From originally playing coffee houses in his McGill days in Montreal to his present day teaching in the gifted program in the Toronto area, song-writing has been James’ steadying practice throughout.

Recordings produced by CBC performer David Matheson (Moxy Fruvous) and Juno Award winning producer Eugene Martynec (Bruce Cockburn, Edward Bear) have garnered Miller an appreciative audience of fans and critics alike.

Recipient of two FACTOR awards for Canadian Talent and a veteran of the Hillside, Philadelphia and Spadina Music Festivals, Miller continues engaging new listeners.

James has currently been very proactive raising awareness and funds for the AIDS crisis in Africa today. Organizing and performing in 4 benefit concerts in Newmarket to sold out audiences has helped him achieve the goals he holds close.

His recent efforts have helped raise $62 000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation through his joint-initiative called “VOICES FOR AFRICA.” James’ profile as a local performer and an activist continues to grow with a feature article in the local newspaper, numerous television appearances and a sold out show at Theatre Aurora –as well as his recent work with the Aids Committee of York Region. “Voices For Africa 4” (Feb. 25, 26, in 2009) will prove to be another set of exciting evenings of enthusiastic music and human compassion.
