"Rancho Cucamonga Drummer is a Thriller"

Los Osos High School junior Jason McNichols is more than a drummer for the psychedelic blues rock band Jameson Moss & the Thrillers. He's an actor and a budding filmmaker.
Still, "drumming is my passion," McNichols said in an interview on Monday. "I love playing a lot."

The Rancho Cucamonga teen, 17, said he learned to play from his father Dave McNichols.

"Everytime I'm on stage, it's a great experience," he said. His nickname is "fuzzy" because of his signature hairstyle, he said.

McNichols said his musical heroes include Switzerland drummer Jojo Mayer and the late Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro.

"My goal as a drummer is to make everything sound easy," McNichols said.

The band's sound is like Radiohead mixed with Kings of Leon, he said.

Bandmate Jameson Moss is 18 years old and from Santa Monica. Bassist 15-year-old Bennet Markoe is from Culver City.

McNichols and Moss are also actors and met on the set of a Six Flags Commercial. They are part of the Second City Comedy Improv group in Hollywood.

McNichols was recently in a commercial for the snack product "Slim Jim." "I consider acting as my hobby," he said.

The group, which can be contacted at this link, will have an album mastered by Capital Records on the independent Joebro Records in the summer.

McNichols, after he graduates high school, wants to pursue

Bio

Jameson Moss and the Thrillers started out with just Jameson Moss. He was playing an open mic night at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip when he was asked to come back and play a show. With his voice and an acousitc guitar, he played a show to a sold out crowd. The booking goup that booked him at the Rainbow asked Jameson if he wanted to play the Whiskey A Go Go.

Knowing that his original songs would sound better with a band Jameson started looking for someone to fill out "The Thrillers". In steps Jason McNichols and Jameson's cousin Hunter Moss.

Jason comes from a musical family and plays drums just like his dad. Jameson met Jason on the set of The Six Flags More Flags More Fun Dancing Teen commerical. After performing in The Second City Improv Troupe in Hollywood, Jameson found out that Jason played the drums and after one Jam session the guys knew it was a perfect fit.

Hunter, himself a solo artist, stepped away from the bass after the Whiskey and Jameson now needed somene to play bass in the studio. In steps Bennett Markoe Bennett and Jameson met at a music school called Rock Nation in Santa Monica, CA. The school does cover shows on classic rock bands every couple of months, and both Bennett and Jameson performed together at all of the top venues in Los Angeles. Now, even though Bennett is 15, he plays with the style of an old school dude from the 60s and 70s. Bennett would be the last piece of The Thrillers puzzle.

Now that the band was set, Jameson decided to record nine of his ten original songs. So thanks to Beaker McNichols the guys met and recorded at Dennis Moody's studio in LA. These young artists astounded Dennis by laying all the tracks and overdubs to eight of the songs in just 22 hours. Once the final song, City of Broken Lights was laid it was on to Capitol Studios and Mastering where Evren Goknar put his amazing artistry to the songs and we have the first LP, Jameson Moss and The Thrillers- City of Broken Lights. With the amazing photography done by Jonathan Moss, JoeBro Records, the Moss family indie label released the first LP on October 1, 2009 to great reviews. With four more original songs ready to go, the guys hope to release the second LP by mid year next year.
The sound of Jameson Moss and The Thrillers is bluesy, roots rock. The music is influenced by The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, the Talking Heads, and Radiohead.
Not only amazing musical talents, these artists have performing arts experience unseen in artists of their ages. They not only amaze people with their musical expertise but astound with their stage presence. There has not been one gig that they have not been asked to come back and stay longer. Not only will people recognize these artist by the music they play but Jameson will be seen not only on a reacurring episode of Hannah Montana but also in the movie Easy A coming out in 2010. On Top of that both Jameson and Jason can be seen in nationwide commercials giving them extra exposure for their fans.
