James Porter has recorded French songs before under his French name Jacques Protat. 'Louise", a Manouche jazz song, is particularly catchy, and his adaptation of Victor Hugo's "Demain, dès l'aube" will be the definitive one for decades to come.

Bio
James Porter truly knows what he is doing and he has a PhD to prove it - on the New York cabaret scene and how it preserves and develops the Great American Songbook. Still there is nothing contrived in his songs, as he always writes them as they come. His particular talent is to write songs that inspire jazz improvisers by always treading the fine line between the familiar and the unexpected.
In Montreal James Porter has been especially lucky meeting superb instrumentalists of the younger generation that take his tunes up to the top jazz level.
François Jalbert is already at 23 a true jazz virtuoso, and singer Anais Larocque brings to their first album a charm and sensitivity that are wonderfully alluring.
Saxophone virtuoso David Bellemare has enough musical experience to fit into any project. This time he dug deep into the emotions of the songs to deliver lines that will make you want to listen again and again.
