Bio

Hailing from coastal Devon, Brighton-based singer-songwriter James Robinson has been favorably compared to vocalists such as Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Jamie Cullum. The son of a writer and a music journalist, James established himself as the charismatic front man of alt-pop band Two Spot Gobi.
TSG gave James his first platform to write and perform with other musicians and when spotted by singer Jason Mraz, James and the band were invited to support him on tours in the UK, Europe and the US. James duetted with Jason on “Tomorrow”, a track that he had specifically written for them to sing together, and during the bands time on the road they also opened for the likes of Bruno Mars, Ben Howard and Newton Faulkner.
As the main songwriter with Two Spot Gobi and with vocals that have been described as “assured”, “enticing” and “all the more powerful live” (Music Week), James has always had the ability to create an immediate emotional relationship with his audience. At the beginning of 2012, he started working on material that more closely represents his distinctive musical style and ability to connect personally with people.
With his new EP “Ropes” James makes a powerful transition from feel-good pop, to a darker, more intimate experience, giving the listener strong melodies accompanied by raw and honest lyrics. Citing influences such as Ray Lamontagne, James Blake, Adele and Sting, the “Ropes” EP is a captivating collection of beautifully crafted songs engaging the listener through their challenging yet addictive quality.
Produced by Max Gilkes (Lily Allen, Roots Manuva, Fink) in Brighton, limited edition physical copies of the record “Ropes” are available from www.jamesrobinson-music.com
