Bio

Born in Montreal, JAMES WOODS, the young prodigy of the alternative rock scene started to perform when he was 13. Self-taught, he first learned to play the piano, then the guitar and singing. He is scheduled to perform in several high schools of the Montreal region accompanied by a group of musicians.

His influences are varied, from Led Zeppelin to Elton John, without forgetting The Strokes, Feist, Keane and Leonard Cohen… James Woods is a true music lover. He started to compose when he was 16 and some of his songs were chosen for the soundtracks of the movies Summer and Hatley High, both directed by Phil Price, produced by Philms and distributed by Seville.

A true artist, this “flirt” with movie making was only the premise to an acting career. At 19, JAMES WOODS entered the famous Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York, his studies securing him roles on television as well as on the big screen. Today he is represented by the Agence MCM in Montreal, Steve Glick Agency in Los Angeles and The Charactors in Toronto. He has performed with Ricky Schroder, Ben Cross, Robert England, Kathleen Robertson, Billy Baldwin, Clea Duvall, Neve Cambell and Billy Burke to name but a few. He received his first nomination in 2007 for “Best Ensemble Cast” for his performance in the comedy The Business, a TV series broadcast by TMN in Canada and IFC in the USA. He will shortly be seen in Lance et compte. (For more information on his acting career, visit http://www.imdb.com)

His musical career hit a turning point in 2004, when François Mario Labbé from the Analekta label decided to take it in charge. Since then, he has been seen on various Montreal stages (Foufounes Électriques, Café Campus, Missy Bar, The Green Room/Main Hall) and a recording project is in progress. James Woods has been working for the past two years on an eponymous album, to be released soon.

His immense talent allow him to conceive all his arrangements and backup vocals, and a renowned professional team supports him. Scott Price has produced the album (Céline Dion, Westerners, Roch Voisine, Éric Lapointe…) and it has been mixed by Glen Robinson (Tori Amos, The Tea Party, Voïvod) and mastered by Howie Weinberg, at the famous Masterdisk studio in New York. The musicians who took part in this recording are: Pierre Hébert on drums, Sylvain Bolduc on bass, Jeff Smallwood and Grégory Paquet on guitars. The string section is made up of violinists Philippe Dunnigan, Chantal Bergeron, Edith Pedneault, Mélanie Bélair and Monique Poitras, violist Yukari Cousineau and cellists Carla Antoun and Thérèse Ryan.

Perfectly bilingual as he was been educated in both French and English, James Woods chooses to express himself first in English on this new eponymous album filled with soft rock alternative rhythms. His rich texts tell us tales of love as well as of issues more focussed on society. His melodies are catchy and his suave voice leads us into a world where the atmosphere is warm, rhythmic and relaxing.
