"New Guitar Pop Discovery"

James Younger is playing guitar pop in a classic form - jangly and bouncy, with a vocal approach that calls to mind the Strokes. I really like the guitar lines on this song:

It's ridiculously catchy, and you can learn more (tour dates, etc.) at Light Organ Records. I am really looking forward to hearing more from him. - When you Motor Away Blog

"James Younger: Monday Morning"

The song is straight-up guitar pop. “Pop” isn’t a word that Younger is against being defined by, either. He loves making music that sounds careless and catchy. This sure shows in “Monday Morning” too, it’s bouncy, upbeat, and bright. It’s a lot of fun to listen to, sounding somewhat Strokes-y at times. “Monday Morning” is the first release from James Younger’s upcoming album, titled Feelin’ American, which will be released sometime in late Spring so keep an eye and an ear out for it! - Tri-state Indie

"James Younger: Monday Morning"

Vancouver-by-way-of-UK singer, James Younger is preparing to release his debut album, Feelin’ American. The album’s lead single is “Monday Morning,” a song which sounds somewhere between the Strokes and Darwin Deez. - Surviving the Golden Age

"KEXP Song Of The Day: James Younger - Monday Morning"

Vancouver-based guitar pop songwriter James Younger has made himself known in the Vancouver music scene through his work as a singer and guitarist in the bands Sun Wizard and The Zolas (both on Light Organ) and just this past year has released his self-titled solo debut, also on Light Organ. Our song of the day, “Monday Morning”, from that release, is a catchy as hell piece of guitar-pop that is a radio classic like the Cars would write. Younger’s vision for radio-hit guitar pop is fully realized by the doubled guitar lines, bright backbeats, and the strongly carrying melody topping the mix. It’s nostalgic music, maybe partly because guitar-based radio pop music is not heard much in recent years, but also because Younger’s lyrics have that Tom Petty type of romanticism -- lyrics about dancing to the radio, staying out all night, chasing girls and playing hooky. With such assured songwriting and well-honed taste, we can expect much more pop sorcery from this Northwest musician. Keep up with James Younger on his tumblr, and twitter. - KEXP

Bio

Born with the rock 'n' roll blood of Manchester in his veins, Younger would tell his mates growing up he was descended from the outlaws of the American West. His forefathers rode with Jesse James, an illicit era of train-robbing and boozing that spurred a desire in his heart to seek out the best of America. While Younger loved The Smiths and The Cars, he grew older and became a fixture in his local music scene. His heart felt restless for places he'd yet to visit.

At 21, Younger left his homeland and ventured across the sea to America. He hitchhiked across the Midwest, and related to the common working men he came across, writing down their stories in the notepad he kept in his breast pocket. These would be the seeds that would grow into the songs of his new album Feelin’ American.

Younger planted roots in the Canadian city of Vancouver and became an integral part of the underground music scene. Putting on shows and playing with local acts like The Zolas, Sun Wizard and starting numerous bands, Younger has crafted his first solo release of pop anthems that will be on road trip playlists for years to come.

There's a perennial quality to these songs that you could be hearing in 1987 or 2013 or twenty years in the future. A kid in Medicine Hat could one day play "Do It Again" over and over in his parent's Mazda van or an oil-patch worker in Whitehorse might have "Never Easy" on his morning playlist in the work truck. Someone will listen to "Simple Things " while (discreetly) smoking a cigarette at Jericho Beach in Vancouver. This is music to sway the shoulders of the common man, to break the hearts of every pretty girl and make every guy imagine himself singing "Monday Morning" onstage.

James Younger's debut album Feelin' American produced by Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat), release TBD.
