"Album review"

“Jamie Nova's vocals, a sonic melding of Anne Wilson and Ronnie James Dio, are the most resonating element of the album and are wisely kept in the forefront of the mix. Her yowl is so fierce, you'd swear she descends upon each show in a chain mail bra straddling a pterodactyl. As Metal with a capital M as she is, I'd love to hear Ms. Nova's vocals applied to varying genres, as she has the power to potentially cross over and break out commercially, a la Grace Potter.” - Seattle Weekly

"Vocal review"

“Especially striking was the vocal delivery of Jamie Nova which was full of emotion, energy and raw power. This girl can really belt out a tune and has a vocal range that is second to none in the USA right now.” - DOOMMANTIA

"Xaviera Hollander on Jamie Nova"

“She is, according to one of our closest friends, Rolf Buiter, who was also our guest during this trip: “A boy trapped in a woman’s body”- tiny, feisty, muscular, tattooed . We attended a restaurant opening at Tres Amigos (Marbella, Spain) where Jamie played a few songs acoustically. She sounds like Janis Joplin and is a great guitar player as well as singer.” - Xaviera Hollander- The Happy Hooker

"Rustyn Rose on Jamie Nova"

“Singer Nova, who also fronts the Seattle based rock band Witchburn, was a vocal dynamo with incredible stage command.” - Examiner. com

"Jamie Nova SKY concert review, Olympia"

If you go to the Jamie Nova SKY‘s Facebook page and read the “about” section you’ll read some phrases like “Creating the music that manifests itself within our being.” “Living every day like we are dying.” “Eating, Drinking, and spending time with those that challenge us to become the best we can be.”

Just a few minutes at one of their shows or spending a few minutes talking to these wonderful human beings and you’ll know that those phrases were not some carefully crafted words manufactured by a PR firm. The members of this band believe and live this stuff and when they are on stage they project that positive energy into the crowd. Or as Jamie likes to put it, “Shove sunshine up their asses”. And I promise you she means that in the most loving way possible.

Of course all of the members of this band have played in various other bands and collaborations that include bands like the legendary Shadow, The Rockfords, current metal masters Witchburn, the ultra popular Klover Jane and Black Diamond. To call them a super group at least on the local level wouldn’t be a stretch but even without that title they are playing super music. Cumulatively I doubt I could count the times I’ve seen all these musicians in their various other projects and I’ve loved every show.

I’d best describe their sound as a bluesy-Americana with driving melodic acoustic rock overtones, with just enough of a swampy world drum beat to make it unique to the northwest.

On Saturday May 30 I got a chance to catch the band at a killer venue in Olympia called The Urban Onion. On a stage that uses a secondary bar and 20 foot tall mural of Hotel Olympia as a backdrop, Jamie and her merry-men drove home the message that life is beautiful. As they powered through brilliant performances of “Better Days” and “1500 Miles” the crowd bobbed their heads. clapped and swayed even if some in the audience had never heard them before.

By the time Jamie Nova SKY burst into a blazing version of Janis Joplin‘s “Me & Bobby McGee” they already owned the crowd but this one finished them off. Possessing one of the best set of pipes the northwest has ever heard, she bounced around the dimly lit stage, while bassist Rick Friel energetically added plenty of tasty licks, with rock-solid guitarist JT Phillips and animated drummer Chris Kiger contributing a flair of their own.

This is clearly a band having a blast and is destined to do great things. Stay tuned for our interview with Jamie Nova SKY coming later this week. - Northwest Music Scene

Bio

Passionate, soulful, acoustic rock with a powerful positive message

Jamie Nova has been inspired and influenced by music her entire life. Growing up in the church where both her parents sang, participating in choir all through her schooling, starring in children’s musicals when she was in elementary, to gaining the lead role in her high school musicals, there was never a time that music wasn’t integrally a part of her every day existence. It was part of her being.

She began writing stories at 11, poetry at 13, and then finally learning to play the guitar at 18 started to write her own music. Moving to Denver for college she formed her first band and was addicted. They played locally and began to for a good draw in the Denver area winning a battle of the bands and participating on a radio contest for local bands on 103.5 The Fox.

At 25 she was asked to audition for the All Female AC/DC tribute band, Hell’s Belles based out of Seattle Washington and got the position as lead vocalist. She sang for Hell’s Belles from 2005-2011. While singing for the AC/DC tribute she started creating music with Mischa Kianne in 2006 and together they created Witchburn which grew to National and International success playing to crowds of up to 30,000 people and opening for acts such as Korn, Slipknot, Dio’s Disciples, Crowbar, and many others.

Following her 6 years dedicated to the All Female AC/DC tribute, Hell’s Belles (Seattle, WA),  Jamie Nova set out to create the music that was manifesting itself within her soul. Having toured the globe with both Hell's Belles and Witchburn she is ready to share he solo acoustic music with the world.  In 2010 she recorded and released her first album “The Softer Side”  (produced by Jack Endino) following with a short tour in The Netherlands and Spain.

In 2012 Jamie added guitar virtuoso JT Phillips to her line up adding depth and color to her music, taking it to a deeper level in 2014 she found the final members, Rick Friel on Bass and Christopher Kiger on Percussion. They have just finished recording and mixing their first album att Litho Studios in Seattle as Jamie Nova SKY. “This is Life”  and the release is planned for the fall of 2015 with a CD release tour in the US. In the meantime the band has released a short EP for the summer launching a short Summer 2015 West Coast Tour in Washington, Oregon, and California.

It is our goal to create the music that manifests itself within our being. To live every day like we are dying. Eating, Drinking, and spending time with those that challenge us to become the best we can be and to deliver the best music we can for our fans.
