Jamie Bernstein

Jamie Bernstein

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

Jamie Bernstein is a poet and songwriter originally from West Virginia. He has been living in New Orleans for the past 12 years and performing his poems and songs. His inspiration is drawn from both the folk music of Appalachia and the rich musical traditons of New Orleans.

Biography

Jamie Bernstein was raised in the Southern West Virginian mountains. His parents, distrusting the destructive path of Western Civilization, moved to this remote patch of wilderness in 1975. Jamie was raised with no electricity in a house built of stone and logs.
With no television or other outside entertainment he read many books. This early exposure to language and radical political ideas started him on the path towards becoming a powerhouse word man. He studied literature and creative writing at Florida State University and at The University of New Orleans where he earned a BA in Liberal Arts. In New Orleans he has been working as a lyricist, arranger, and producer for the famous trumpeter James "12" Andrews. His original song "1, 2, What You Gonna Do" appears on James' album, People Get Ready Now. In addition, Jamie mixed and co-produced the album.
Right now Jamie's focus is on continuing to create songs for others to enjoy singing and playing.
