Jamie Hector
A Ruling Force

A Prince prepares to rule, long before he is called a King. Last season Jamie Hector was the Prince, who joined the cast of the critically acclaimed, HBO series, THE WIRE. Now Jamie in the role of Marlo Stanfield is ready to wear the Crown. Jamie is a phenomenal actor, his character, Marlo Stanfield, went up against the reigning Barksdale crew, for the street corners of Baltimore depicted on the show. It was a difficult task to join one of the hottest casts on T.V., however, Jamie’s outstanding portrayal of the “cool-headed, cold-blooded killer, and drug boss”, Marlo Stanfield, is undeniable. Marlo is self-contained, impenetrable and ruthless. He moves with the regal mannerism of royalty. His presence on the show is like the soundtrack to action movie, when you see him; you know that something is about to “go down”. The show’s large and diverse audience, now cheer Jamie on, as Marlo fans anxiously tune in every Sunday night at 10pm on HBO.

Jamie began acting immediately after high school when he auditioned for a community theater co. It was his role as Kaseem, in the theater company’s production of THE FIRST STEP that first brought him recognition. Awards for this role include the Fulfilling the Dream honor from CBS television.

Jamie then enrolled in college while he continued to audition and book roles on NY Undercover, Third Watch, Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, The Beat, and Oz. His film work dates back to Spike Lee’s Clockers. From there he went on to appear in He Got Game, Ghost Dog, Prison Song, Everyday People and Paid In Full. Jamie attributes a defining moment in his career to the short film five deep breaths. With Jamie in the lead role five deep breaths was an Official Selection of the Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca, and IFP Film Festivals; where it went on to accumulate 16 awards. His most recent work in the films MVP with Wood Harris and N’Bushe Wright and BLACKOUT with Melvin Van People and, Jeffrey Wright.

Jamie is proud to say that he grew up in Brooklyn New York. He knows first hand, the difficult choices that kids face growing up. He mentors “at risk youth” working as a volunteer a drama teacher at an after school program in Brooklyn. Jamie also developed an outstanding martial arts team while maintaining his drama students on alternate days. He has taught them how to make good choices, encouraged them to read and offered them positive alternatives to the streets. Jamie’s students continue to receive far more than acting lessons and improved reading scores. He is a role model by example. Many of his students have already decided to become professional actors, booking roles such as, Simba, in the touring company of Lion King, earning SAG memberships and recording a music CD at P. Diddy’s Studio in New York.

Although Jamie is highly skilled and enormously talented, he continues to study at the Lee Strasberg Institute between films. However, this is not what makes Jamie so appealing. Women are drawn to his masculine strength. A female LA casting director said, “I love a man who can look me in the eyes and stare me down. I find him refreshing”. Men relate to his quiet confidence, a director from THE WIRE, Seith Mann says, “ Jamie comes on set prepared, he’s never loud or argumentative, but at the same time he is not one to back down or bend his principles, he’s different and so damn believable”. Which leads many to ask, is he a Bad Boy for real or just acting? Jamie’s not talking but either way Jamie Hector is at the nascent stage on his journey to greatness.
