"Local Bands Make Ear-Catching Music"

Singer-songwriter Jamie Holesha's "3 Dollar Demo" (so named because that's what she sells it for at shows) features three tunes powerful enough that they make others in this genre sound like emotional lightweights. Holesha attacks her 12-string with punk ferocity and veritably howls her vocals; think of a one-woman, riot grrrl version of the Indigo Girls.

Bio

Jamie Holesha is a Chicago based singer/songwriter. Her energetic live shows are pulled together by an engaging stage presence finely tuned through a background that includes theatre and broadcast radio. Musically, she has performed as a solo act for 8 years with 3 years of fronting and writing for her bands prior to that. Imitating none but inspired by many (Janis Joplin, Ben Folds, Etta James, Tom Jones, Kristin Hersh, Melissa Ferrick, Jeff Buckley, Louis Prima, Concrete Blonde, The Pixies), she thrills audiences with a belting, blues-tinged voice, unabashed sarcasm and sweetness, crowd interaction and a genuine love of performing. Her musical sound shines with fractured, pretty chords soaring up from and exorcised out of her 12-string with furious conviction. Not your typical acoustic female performer, she seems to wrap herself around acoustic familiarities and twist them into loud, funny, emotional and gut-wrenching pieces that leave you clutching the edge of the table and deciding whether to laugh, cry, sing along or pick up your own guitar.
