Bio

Jamie McCarthy was 20 years old when he earned himself the role of lead vocalist of the early 90s alt rock band Modern Cocktail Party. After a year of touring and a fallen deal with Warner Bros records he was swept into the world of commercial production and voice over work. In 1995 as he was about to embrace the music industry once again his father, legendary Hall of Fame Radio host J.P McCarthy passed away. Jamie then spiraled quietly into the depths of a Dewars bottle for 6 years. Appearing occasionally on the WJR radio show, Happy hour where he would perform experimental tracks that he had written under the influence, often quoting Charles Bukowski and then leaving the show. In the fall of 2001, he sobered and returned from a 10 year hiatus from the music business. He began writing music again after a trip to Santa Monica, California where he'd seen a homeless person hang himself from a tree on Ocean Ave. Inspired by the tragedy, he wrote Strange Town and it was the beginning of a project that he swore he would see through to completion. It was then he vowed never to take himself or life too seriously. His confessional story telling lyrics are thought provoking and honest and often comical. The listener will travel to some pretty dark places but will often be left with a positive message and hopefully a smile. His sort of "life is short so don't sweat the small stuff" message is something we can all relate to. You get the feeling listening to his songs that he is quite comfortable with himself and finds comedy in the absurd world of deep self importance.
