"Canadian Country Music Artist Brings Fame To Destin"

'Sweet, Sweet Summertime': Canadian country music artist shoots music video in Destin

May 25, 2012 by- Jordan Swanson

A music artist from the Great White North has brought fame to Destin with his first single.
Country artist, Jamie Stever, grew up in and is currently from Prince Edward County, Ontario, in Canada. He filmed his latest song “Sweet Sweet Summertime” in Destin earlier this month, featuring a few familiar locations.
“The idea of the video was just texting everybody and then they ditch work,” said Stever. He said the video’s message is simple: Have a good time in the summer. “It’s a three-minute song that’s fun.”
Stever has been in the music business as an artist for 10 years. Before becoming a country artist, he worked in the skilled trades.
In the music video, places in Destin like Crystal Beach, Bass Pro Shops, Destin Parasailing, Gentle Winds charter boat service and Crab Island are all featured, along with dozens of locals soaking up the carefree Destin life on the water.
As for how Destin was chosen as the location for the video, he credited the man who engineered the song. He had just bought a place in Destin right before they started the recording session, and he showed Stever photos of the area and he liked what he saw, persuading him to shoot the video here.
Stever then wrote the song “Sweet Sweet Summertime” with songwriter/producer Brian G. White and Bruce Wallace.
When The Log asked Stever what his favorite part about shooting the video was, he replied, “All of it. I’d been to a lot of places, but always been to south Florida … never been to Destin. Coming across the bridge from Fort Walton Beach — it was incredible.”
Stever added that “Sweet Sweet Summertime” should be playing on Destin area radio stations soon.
Greg Marler, captain of Gentle Winds charter boat service, took Stever out on his boat as a part of the music video.
“It was great — heck of a nice guy. His entourage is awesome. He’s just totally great and his whole album is great. I love every song on his album. We played it while we were out there,” said Marler of his first experience with meeting Stever.
Marler said that Stever didn’t have time to go on a lengthy fishing trip, so they “just sat there and caught bait fish.”
“Really neat being with a star that’s gonna make it somewhere,” said Marler. “Maybe when he’s rich and famous, he’ll come down and say hey to me some time.”
The video also featured Bass Pro Shops employee William Torrence.
“It’s almost like you are acting, in a sense. You are trying to portray a certain image and it becomes a very, very exciting thing just to see the final product,” said Torrence.
“I think it’s making a great start. I anticipate good things,” he said of Stever’s music career.
Stever said that there are plans for putting together a show in Destin this summer.
He hasn’t performed with many artists from America, but if he could, he’d like to perform with country artists like Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney.
Stever is currently on a Cross Canada Radio Tour from May 17 until June 15. His debut album, “Genuine,” will be released over summer. It will be available on iTunes and on his website at www.JamieStever.com. - Destin Log
