Bio

Ranging from a delicate, high falsetto to a rich baritone, Jamie combines classically trained vocal chops with a soulful rock edge that breaks and leaps.

Jamie began his musical journey as a precocious young choirboy. This happened quite naturally due to theatrical parents and all the showtunes he had been exposed to at such an early age. It started in a church choir and age 8 and led to singing with the American Boychoir at age 11, conveniently located 10 miles from his home town of Pennington, NJ. Then high school happened, which meant more choirs and a predictable foray into musical theatre. A few tori amos records and dyed red hair later, this choirboy stopped everything and sat down to learn the piano at age 17.

In 2003, Jamie moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, where he began studying songwriting and composition, jamming with other musicians, and playing venues such as TT the Bears Place and The Middle East with regularity. In 2005, he teamed up with producer rich mendelson to create a unique singer/songwriter collection that drew on his classical/musical theatre background, and began integrating his growing passion for rock and contemporary music.

Following the independent release, he dropped out of Berklee and moved to New York. Inspired by radical queer politics and art, the former choirboy withdrew from the live music scene and began delving into harder hitting, more confrontational, and political forms of rock, electro-punk and grunge. He desired a more raw sound and a departure from his classically trained vocals, and spent time on tour with his good friends, former riot grrl feminist punk band “The Fun”, as well as around the lower east side queer scene.

Jamie’s new style, and unshakeable drive to find solid progressive queer artist community found him exploring the pacific northwest starting in June 2009, following a shamanic yogic adventure with Ana Forrest. He spent several months in San Francisco, CA, and almost 9 months in the woods with radical queer community. It was there he began making demos of new songs he had been writing.

“Out of Love” was released on August 24th, 2010, a self-recorded, full length, proudly low-fi record which once again showcases Jamie’s ability to write intriguing, honest, emotive pop music.

The new record caught the attention of San Francisco producer Joe Varela, and due to immediate musical chemistry and mutual passion for pop music, the two went into the studio in September 2010 and began working on Jamie’s first studio EP since 2005. Valentine’s Day 2011 marked the release of 2 new delightfully shiny new pop songs for everyone’s listening pleasure streaming online.

Jamie now resides in Portland, OR where he has been playing monthly at venues such as the Jade Lounge, The Ella St. Social Club, and Red Cap Garage for the first annual Portland Queer Music Festival. He is quietly writing lots of new material and plotting madly to make a new record very soon.
