Jamil

BandRockSinger/Songwriter

"Passionately sung, well crafted lyrics." -- Chris Iorfida, contributor to Chart Magazine and Eye Magazine

Biography

After several years as a guitar player in a Kingston-based blues/jazz/funk band, Jamil suddenly found that his band-mates had moved on from university while he had not! Without his music-making amigos, Jamil picked up his acoustic guitar and began to dabble in singing and songwriting. This quickly became his focus and passion.

In the years that followed, right up until the present, Jamil has undertaken his own artist development by writing continuously and by performing in his hometown of Toronto. You'll often find him playing solo at The Cameron House, Free Times Cafe, NOW Lounge or The Rivoli.

Jamil's songwriting has been recognized repeatedly. He was a finalist in the 2005 International Songwriting Competition for his song "Ocean Tide" (co-written with Ron Lopata), and "My Way Home" (also co-written with Ron) received an honourable mention in the 2005 Billboard Song Contest. Recently, American Songwriter Magazine published his lyrics for "The Sun Will Rise"... and the list goes on.

With influences such as James Taylor, Paul Simon, Coldplay, David Gray and Ray LaMontagne, Jamils Singer/Songwriter/Rock music is described by Chris Iorfida (contributor to Chart Magazine and Eye Magazine) as "passionately sung with well crafted lyrics."

The aspiring singer/songwriter has just finished his first full-length album "Always on a Tightrope" with producer Ron Lopata (Tomi Swick, Simon Wilcox) which is now available at CD Baby www.cdbaby.com/cd/jamilmusic and will be available at iTunes, Puretracks, and more in the coming weeks.

Lyrics

Ocean Tide

Written By: Jamil and Ron Lopata

Words by Jamil. Music by Jamil and Ron Lopata

V1
She always crashes when it's raining
Like a tear drop in the sand
We've been on then off and on again
Well tonight might finally be the end.

CHORUS
Crashing like a tidal wave in a storm
I'm praying I can find my way to the shore
Sinking underneath the sky
Drifting miles apart
We're up and down like the ocean tide.

V2
We wrote our names in the Cuban sand
Beneath the stars, walking hand in hand
Well A lot has changed from then to now
But I never meant to let you down.

CHORUS
Crashing like a tidal wave in a storm
I'm praying I can find my way to the shore
Sinking underneath the sky
Drifting miles apart
We're up and down like the ocean tide.

BRIDGE
It’s so hard to swim against the tide
On life’s rollercoaster ride
Over peaks and valleys down below, and I know
I never want to see you go

CHORUS
Crashing like a tidal wave in a storm
I'm praying I can find my way to the shore
Sinking underneath the sky
Drifting miles apart
We're up and down like the ocean tide.

My Way Home

Written By: Jamil and Ron Lopata

Lyrics by Jamil. Music by Jamil and Ron Lopata

V1
On the path across the park
In the night and through the dark
Climb the stairs up to your door
Like a thousand times before.

PRE-CHORUS
Well now I know, I know, I chose to go
I disappeared, it’s fair you blame me dear.

CHORUS
When I finally found my way home
I’d been wandering around too long.
When I finally found my way home
I found out that you were gone.

V2
In the light I see your note
Whispering every word you wrote
And as I’m crawling down the stairs
I remember the days and nights we shared.

PRE-CHORUS
Well now I know, I know, I chose to go
I disappeared, it’s fair you blame me dear.

CHORUS
When I finally found my way home
I’d been wandering around too long.
When I finally found my way home
I found out that you were gone.

BRIDGE
I feel a chill inside my veins
And know my heart won’t beat the same.

CHORUS
When I finally found my way home
I’d been wandering around too long.
When I finally found my way home
I found out that you were gone.

Christine

Written By: Jamil

V1
Take the underground at Piccadilly Square
The London tube carries me to Heathrow
There’s a thousand miles between
Your bed and mine
I wish you were the girl next door

Pre-Chorus
Every time we say good-bye
I feel like I’m losing my mind

CHORUS
Now that I know
Now that I know what love means
I’m never gonna let you go
Christine

V2
A stewardess points to the emergency doors
As we wait on the runway
I wanna break down those doors
Take the train back to you
And love you once more today

Pre-Chorus
Every time we say good-bye
I feel like I’m losing my mind

CHORUS
Now that I know
Now that I know what love means
I’m never gonna let you go
Christine

Bridge
I trace the silhouette of your hips
Your tenderness
And how I miss your lips
As I wait and wish

CHORUS
Now that I know
Now that I know what love means
I’m never gonna let you go
Christine
You’re all the love I need
Christine
