April 1, 2006 (Los Angeles, CA) – Jamili Brown, the music scene’s newest and most diverse hip-hop, rock group has launched its website and will release its album April 1st. The group is made up of Anthony Raspberry, Lonnie Gardner, Keith Cathey. Raspberry states that Jamili Brown creates real music that not only gives people good melodies and beats to listen to but also has real meaning and significant messages.

Jamili Brown is a hip-hop, rock group made up of four male vocalist. The group’s multicultural appeal is one of its most unique and marketable qualities BUT, the group members pride themselves on not pushing their ethnicities or unique group make-up and instead focusing on the fact that they make good music. But what is Jamili Brown? Take three parts rock band and combine them with an innovative DJ; blend the four with a multi-talented, urban-rock vocal trio. The end result is Jamili Brown. Showcasing a backing band second to none, driving rhythms, intricate harmonies and explosive stage presence, this 7-piece musical assemblage is capable of changing minds, provoking thought, and igniting a revolution. Jamili Brown has one goal: to deliver a high energy live show that cannot be labeled. Along with their surplus of original material, Jamili Brown loves to showcase their influences through cover songs ranging from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to The Beatles to Tupac to The Eagles. Jamili Brown knows what it takes to put on a show -- when they take the stage the energy is undeniable, and the crowd will not want to leave.

“We do not want fans,” explains vocalist Keith Cathey. “We want true followers who believe in the value of real music that has something to say.”
Based out of Louisville, Kentucky, Jamili Brown got its musical start in early 2000 as a strictly hip-hop/rap group. The three founding members consisted of vocalists Anthony Raspberry, Keith Cathey, and Lonnie Gardner. Having grown up singing together in church and middle and high school choir, Anthony, Keith, and Lonnie knew from an early age that music would be their calling. Assuming the name PSP, the three guys joined with Anthony’s brother, Alex, and his friends Ernie Meads and David Walker along with another friend, David Soards. The group scored some local success in Louisville and even placed a single on the radio before Anthony, Lonnie and Keith graduated from high school.
Following graduation, however, Anthony and Lonnie moved to Arizona to attend college, signaling the end of PSP. While in Arizona, Anthony and Lonnie realized that the group needed to head in a new direction. Upon their return to Louisville a year later, Anthony, Lonnie, Keith and David Soards reunited with a new vision: Incorporate live instruments and blend them with a hip-hop foundation. With this new vision came the need for a new name: Jamili Brown.
“Lonnie and I attended a Linkin Park concert while living in Arizona,” recalls Anthony. “And about halfway through the show we just looked at each other and we knew. We knew that if we fused the energy and instrumentation that we were seeing live with our own blend of hip-hop, then we could really be onto something special.”
Jamili Brown gained a respectable local following, performing around Louisville at various low-key spots where hip-hop was the focus. With their release of a self-titled debut album, the group established itself as one of the areas most dynamic hip-hop acts. It wasn’t long until David Soards began feeling that his true calling was production rather than to be on the microphone. He left the group as a vocalist in late 2005, but stayed on as a producer. Again, it was just Anthony, Keith and Lonnie.
Without hesitation the three began to build a permanent band around themselves to become a new incarnation of Jamili Brown. Joshua Jacob, a guitarist who had already played some live shows with the group, would now step onboard full time as the lead guitarist and would also leave his mark by rearranging the instrumentation on some songs to work better with live instruments. The band hit the studio in the fall of 2006 and with the help of Guy Howard on drums, Josh on the guitar and bass, and David Soards producing, emerged with a follow-up album to their debut, entitled Dayz of Thunder.
