"Video Spotlight: Jammers Waffle House Band"

In 2012, Harry, Josh, Jovan, Matthew and Russell of Cawthra Park SS started to play together, bringing their preferred genres of music to the table to create an intense chemistry and collaboration that came to be known as the Jammer's Waffle House. They entered their first Battle of the Bands competition at their school in December 2012 and although their original song “Biscuits and Waffles” didn’t earn them an award, their cover of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall Part I, II and III” earned them the Best Cover Song award.

In June 2013, drummer Harry left the band to pursue his post-secondary education. When one door closes another opens, for the group this led them to welcome Nick as the band’s new drummer.

Since the release of first their CD, Greatest Hits Where’ve You Been, in June 2013, Jammer's Waffle House has won numerous competitions. They’ve played at Canada’s Wonderland, The Sound Academy, The Opera House, the Southside Shuffle and more.

In December of last year, the band won Best Band at Cawthra’s Battle of the Bands; this recognition awarded them a performance on the main stage line up for this year’s Paint the Town Red (PTTR) Canada Day celebration!

The Jammer's Wafflehouse Band will be playing on the Main Stage in Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Come out and support them and other local talent at PTTR, Mississauga!

Join the band for their release party for Sandcastle in the Rain on June 29 at The Rockpile!

"Jammer's Waffle House cooking up rock, jazz and reggae"

Jammer’s Waffle House cooking up rock, jazz and reggae There was good feedback from Jammer’s Waffle House’s EP release party, at Natty’s earlier this spring. Now, they’re back there this Friday and Saturday, during the annual Southside Shuffle.

Not bad for a bunch of 17-year-olds from Cawthra Park School of the Arts.

Matthew Hinojosa (guitar and vocals), Russell Sweeney (piano), Josh McPherson (bass), Jovan Suvajac (lead guitar), and Nick Triggs (drums) are tagged as, “Classic rock mixed with modern rock, experimental jazz, and reggae rock”.

At any given moment, they may do Barenaked Ladies’ If I Had A Million Dollars, Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2 , Coldplay’s Yellow, or a jazz standard like Summertime, or Autumn Leaves.

The original Biscuits & Waffles is a tongue-in-cheek blues lament.

“It gets a really good reception with the crowds. It’s something people can relate to -- breakfast,” Hinojosa says, with a laugh.

Their online samples are catchy and atmospheric. The song House Of Mirrors was inspired by a visit to Roy Thomsom Hall. Forget The Time is a nice textured jam. Lose Yourself is slow and soundtrackish. The vocals are often understated and down in the mix, much like early REM, or Radiohead.

“That would be a nice compliment for our guitarist (Jovan). He’s a huge Radiohead fan,” the singer adds.

“It balances itself out nicely. We don’t try to impress people with one instrument, or soloing. It is important to have everybody heard.”

This all started with a Battle of the Bands competition at Cawthra – which they won. They more recently won again at a Mississauga Rehearsal Factory competition -- and played the Opera House, and Wonderland, over the summer.

They have a total of 12 songs written towards the follow-up to the EP, Greatest Hits: Where Have You Been. But right now, they’re just getting into the gigging.

“I think people connect,” he adds. “It’s not in your face at all. We try to be your friends on stage. We’re not trying to prove anything.”

They play from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m., Friday and Saturday at Natty’s Bar & Grill, 169 Lakeshore Rd. W. at Mississauga Rd. - Mississauga News

Biography

Contrary to the name we
are not a restaurant but a four piece indie rock band that loves serving music to all of our listening audiences.

Jammer’s
Waffle House

has been performing together for over four years. In those four years they have had the opportunity to perform in numerous
venues such as The Opera House, The Sound Academy, The Rockpile East and West,
Canada’s Wonderland, numerous outdoor festivals and private functions.

Jammer's Waffle House has developed their
unique sound that is evident in the songs included on Sandcastle in the Rain and 7th Floor Sessions. Their sound is described as a jazz/rock fusion that
leaves your toe tapping and head bobbing. Each song is memorable in it’s own
way and is well written with interesting hooks and riffs.

Jammer’s Waffle House is continuing to perform live and performing
their music to audiences all around the GTA including stops at newer venues and
events for charities. The band has continued to write and perform songs as well
as mature in their sound by expanding their horizons in genre and themes of
material.
