Moruša: Biela is the first part of a project which is a two album set: the first is Moruša: Biela and second is Moruša: Cierna. Across the two albums the music and lyrics cover much ground. Musically the first album is more acoustic. The line up of cello, violin/viola/zlopcoke, accordion, clarinet/bass clarinet, tuned percussion, cimbalom, piano, plus rhythm section and male vocal quartet lends itself to folk and classical music of the area of central europe, which the album is heavily influenced by though realised through the prism of contemporary composition and "pop" song-craft. - World Music Network

Bio
"Pop princess turned fringe adventurer" a recent review said about the Slovak singer Jana Kirschner. It sums her up pretty well. Jana is a multiple award winner with every one of her 7 albums reaching platinum status. Previously a teenage singing star has quickly matured into a successful and respected singer-songwriter. She plays music from the Central Europe. Explorative, adventurous, mysterious, playful, light, dark and emotional. It blends together past and present musical influences from the Central Europe, Roma culture, as well as western song craft.
Jana Kirschner released her debut in 1997 under Universal Music. A teenage singing star, she soon turned her hand to writing and has had a successful singer/songwriter career in the pop vein throughout her 20s. However, through musical exploration she was determined to branch out and explore music's periphery, though she still is very much in love with the power of the "song". Her last two albums "Krajina Rovina" and Morusa Biela reached out to more experimental climes and were both released to great critical acclaim.
This latest project, Morusa, drives Jana's unique vision and sense of adventure even further towards the mysterious and unexpected. Part 1 "Biela" was released in November 2013, Part 2 "Cierna" is due to be released in October this year. The attempt is to present something from this part of the world which is relevant to the geography and cultures of Central Europe. Nodding to past creativity though thoroughly forward thinking. The music is all original and the lyrics are sung in Slovakian.
The Morusa project plots the ever expanding landscape of Jana's musical vocabulary and sets her firmly amongst the great Slovakian artists of our time. And long may she continue. Next up, " Morusa Cierna". Hold on to your hats...
