Bio
Both Vivian & Jay were born into musical families, playing gigs with their fathers from an early age. In their teens, they trained at the internationally-recognized UNAM & INBA.
In 2003, they were awarded with the Premio Armonia, an award given yearly by the Mexican Musicians Union (SUTM) to artists who have demonstrated Outstanding Artistic Achievement.
They have performed at prominent clubs & festivals, including the International Jazz & Blues Festival in Zacatecas and the Mexico City International Festival.
In 2006 the pair moved to Canada, seeking the opportunity to share their international repertoire with a multi-cultural audience.
Having performed for CBC Radio on Sook-Yin Lees DNTO and Garvia Baileys Big City Small World, as well as regular appearances at jazz and blues clubs, has allowed them to build a fan-base in Toronto.
Fusing their cabaret jazz, classic rock & pop selections with their blues, soul & R&B roots this Duo create an evening full of charming and memorable music which is ideal for private as well as corporate functions. Vivian & Jay play with a devotion to the music which is palpable in the room.
Influences:
Playing piano and guitar, Jays influences range from Tony Bennett and Nat King Cole, to Ray Charles and Eric Clapton.
Vivians vocal influences remain solidly with Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, & Janis Joplin.
Vivian's ability to express emotion through well-known songs, rendering them new to the ear, is second to none.
