Biography

When a bursting book of homegrown poems threatened to fill up my home (forcing me to sleep with my face pressed to the ceiling), I decided to add music and become a band.
That band were the bare bones of the now famous "Grinspoon".
The girl half of the band got dropped in the mid 90's.
After much juggling and right-braining around, "BADjane" was formed via a chance meeting of an old friend...

Michael Samild is a fabulous guitar player who brings my songs to life with his catchy licks and jazz improvisations. His other "love" is "Tinned Aliens" an accidental ensemble (that nearly didn't happen) who does a jazz/rock/funk mix of original toons.

Martyn Wright who plays sax in the band, I met through the "Songsalive" circuit via a recommendation from Mel and Mick Scott. He also contributes to BADjane in a vocal capacity with harmonies and rhythmic phrases.

Lyrics

I'VE GOT SOMETHING (rhythm of the street)

Written By: Jane Armstrong

I'VE GOT SOMETHIN' (rhythm of the street)

I've got something' caught deep inside.
Somethin' that I never have to
want to disguise.
It starts with a "1", ends with a "4"
two and three just make me wanna' say more
'cause it's in me. It's in you.
Can't take this away
This big thing they call "big funk"

CHORUS You can do this
you can do it
You've got more than it takes
y' just make a start you'll wan2 get thru it
y' just make a start n make n get to it ( x 2)

It's in me. It's you
Can't take this away
This big thing they call "big funk"

Gotta' find a bass - line.
Gotta' get it goin' now
Gotta' get it "up" before the 25th of this month

I thought about it

I got rhythm in my feet.
The rhythm of my heart is the rhythm of the street.
It keeps pounding through my veins
and I can see from here it's
pounding' through you - just the same

It's in me. It's you
I want to SHARE with you
It's in me. It's in you ( x 2)

Can't take this away
This big thing they call "big funk"

CHORUS You can do this
you can do it
You've got much more than it takes
y' just make a start you'll wan2 get thru it
y' just make a start n make n get to it ( x 2)

Sudden Rehearsal

Written By: Jane Armstrong

Sudden Rehearsal!

I was summonsed Saturday
to play with
3 old men,
2 girls and a bale
of the best.

The road was windey and long
and to get there,
we frowned over scribbly maps;

praised the clouds for there performance with rain,

Stopped at a shop to
halve the distance

Stopped at a distance to
view the shop.

Shopped with a view to
cover the rest.

Arrived at the place to
get on with the doing of songs
in thongs - it
got hot cos we got
to compete with the bangs and the clangs of the rural weekend
-that the people were having next door.

THIS WAS OUR SATURDAY WHICH
MEAN’T THAT SUNDAY WENT BY, ALMOST UN-COLOURED, AFTER
A PARTY THAT WASN’T PLANNED!

Monday
I slopped out of bed
and
finished the bit I began
the Friday before.

Nitemaress

Nitemares

I met with you and we were talking ‘wild heart’ and ‘freedom’.
Running with the horses. Open space and grassy moores.
We shacked-up on the promise of a passionate existence.
Now, looking back, I wonder if it ever was the score.

Across the breakfast table I return your vacant stare.
Now empty eyes reflect the ‘me’ the ‘you’ the ‘what’s not there’.
Courtesy of love crimes we have trampled our desire to
live and love respectingly.

CHORUS
Give me all your nightmares, I’ll
give you all my fears.
Together we write this horror story
Voice our views and leave us in despair

Around the time that you became my absolute obsession;
Like young girls with obsessions I was blind to any sign of
odgee bodgee, hanky panky, smirky dirt behaviour by
you, my love, my precious one - blind to any sign

Repeatedly a “blackbird” tried to warn me of the truth about
my monster-like companion in a smooth skinned loving youth.

My present state is calm and cool, ready to forgive.
LIKE A BELLY FULL OF ROCKS, MY LOVE!...

CHORUS
Give me all your nightmares, I’ll
give you all my fears.
Together we write this horror story
Voice our views and leave us in despair

“get on with it n be funky”
“Don’t worry about him anymore, just get on and be funky!”

saimese twins

Saimese Twins

Do you get the feeling
that it feels alright sitting side by side
on a good idea - the lady bird flight.
She’s one bird with a big mouth.
She's gotta whole lot to say. So we
came here, got into our gear.
Gonna try to make your day. We are-

‘Born again saimese twins’ - joined at the armpits.
We share a heart and if you try to break us,
this bird won’t be torn apart!

First up it’s Aunty June (you see she can’t bend down)
so it’s round to her place to pull some weeds,
she’s got the sweetest vegies around.
We’re gonna...
gunna hit the distance with a positive funky sound
and, no doubt, there’s things to come
if we’re gonna go around being...

CHORUS

About here, in this verse, the lady bird lost a wing.
If she was odd before, then she’s real odd now.
Every time she starts to sing she goes;”How on eath do I replace P.G.?
Where am I gonna find a guitarist that's like Pete?______ “-but before too long,
the wing’ll grow back she’ll go “DOO B DOO B DO”

INSTRU

We’re up on making
a good thing out of anything and though
we’re super friendly, we won’t suffer fools if they wast our time
cos’ we all believe in a peaceful frame of mind
Yeah, we all believe in a peacful frame

STANDING PANTS - jane armstrong

The money in the jar’s gotta keep us up in our standing pants
The standing pants stand up cos we can’t get the washing done
The washin waits go we’re goin low on the H2O H2O
Th H2O ran out about a year n a half ago!

The money in the jar’s gotta keep us up in our standing pants
The standing pants stand up cos we can’t get the washing done
The washin don’t get done cos we got no washin machine
washin machine
The kid’s deep thinkin Dad thought best to Hock the thing

IV x (I gotta walk past th washin machine in the hock shop everyday.
Our old machine that no-one wants 2 buy)

Mama Oh Mama wot u gonna feed y4 children on
Mama Oh Mama wot u gonna feed y4 children on

IV x Will feed th children on Funk cos we ain’t got the blues
kids like music cos kids usually do

A-7
The money in the jar’s gotta keep us up in our standing pants
The standing pants stand up cos they’ve grown brain cells
Well, it’s an evolutionary first and ‘what next’ who can tell?
- To invent a way to make water - o- oh would do us well!

Now the levels in Warragamba Dam have been dropping low.
I hate to boast but I know where the stuff did go.
IN A SINGLE WEEK!
we can blame it all on my teenage son!
He’s a ‘gun’ in the shower. It’s known by everyone

Mama Oh Mama wot u gonna feed y4 children on
Mama Oh Mama wot u gonna feed y4 children on

Time Out

TIME OUT by Jane Armstrong

Time out rolling on the sea
I still can’t get a hold on freedom. My body drags me.
Oh, under the stars at night a watchin’ and a thinkin’
Stars at night
about their world underneath that dies without even time for blinkin’.

CHORUS
• A heart would turn in it’s grave while still beating with open eyes that see .......that why in Hell, given
• the gift of life, we chose to be lonely

I feel my heart change as I grow up wise. Give me just one place to go for time out away from little lies.
Handy double standards so we can turn a blind eye. Intentions
Standards standards do do doo dd dum dd dum
for a new world but we don’t seem to find the time

CHORUS

Well tell me, where will those people go when their country is sinking into the sea for the ways of the west are fast and unthinking
about responsibilities. We move into the heat.
Res-ponsi-bil-tyies
I tell you, I will be happy when we stand on our own two feet

CHORUS
CHORUS

Lone-lee-eee-ee-ee-ee
