Discography

Kaleidoscope Dreams is my first album. The cd contains original compositions as well as two cover tunes, Paper Roses and House of The Rising Sun. I am in the process of distributing my cd and have targeted local country stations where I have had radio play. I have been fortunate enough to have tracks from this album gain radio airplayand interest from other artists in recording my original tunes.
I am currently working on my second album, featuring new originals and some of my favorite cover tunes. I am anxious to complete this project and hear the final product.

Bio

I've always been passionately interested in music and started making it myself at a pretty young age. The first song I ever wrote was for my grandmother who was in the hospital at the time. It was about being sick, but that is all I remember although I have held on to the thought that it made her better. I took guitar lessons at a music school in Kingston Ontario where we lived. Like many 9 year olds, I didn't like to practice, the structure was not my style but I stayed with the lessons for a couple of years. My best lessons came from my grandfather. He and I used to play guitar together - well - he used to play along with me - I plucked out the wrong notes while he played along, always encouraging.

It wasn't until I was in my teens that I became more serious about writing music. I became a choir member at Blessed Sacrament Church in Cornwall which was an opportunity for me to introduce some of my own material and have it performed by the choir. Later I moved on to lead a choir at St. Peter's in Cornwall, and this allowed me to make a greater contribution to the music of the church. It was during these years that I belonged to a gospel group called the Seven Spirits. There were only six of us of course and we played in many venues around the area. This was a great time and we were all inspired by our love of music and our own spirituality.

When I perform in public, I sing and play guitar, usually solo, but occasionally with friends who may provide bass and drums. Sometimes I play my mandolin and banjo at home, but my instrument of choice for performing is my guitar. I have five guitars which some may feel is excessive but I enjoy them all and each one has its own story. I came across a wonderful vintage pedal steel guitar that I had to have. I am really anxious to learn how to play this; it is a very different technique and will require lessons and lots of practice.

I tend to write about events or situations that mean something to me, maybe not directly connected to me, but inspire me just the same. Most of my lyrics are deeply meaningful at least to me, although I am not opposed to creating something totally nonsensical and commercially fun.

Speaking philosophically, I would say that the most important things to me are self-respect and self-awareness. In order for me to do the things I do, I need to know who I am and I have to be happy with that. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends and family and to have had many positive influences - personal, musical and professional in my life. I now cherish and protect these; I do not take them for granted any more. I think my music will only get better knowing this and believing in myself.
