"Cape Town Folk & Acoustic Music Festival"

"Some new gems also graced the stage, including Janie Bay, a fresh talent from Helderberg who, along with her brother aptly named "the Beard", gave a magical combination of sweet vocals and great guitar work." - Artslink.

"Raw, sensual folk ’n’ acoustic sound"

"Usually more of a rock chick, Janie Bay persuaded her bearded brother to play with her. As with Minter, this stripped-down sound works for her." - Cape Argus - IOL / TONIGHT.

"In Retrospect: Cape Town Folk ‘n Acoustic Festival 2011"

"The highlight of this set was blonde-haired meisie, Janie Bay, whose throaty vocals had my friend falling in love with her every word. Her Tracy Chapman cover of ‘For You’ was exactly how a cover should be. She took the simple lyrics, placed them within a new musical piece and made it sound as if they were right where they had always belonged." - MusicReview.co.za

"JIP Interview - 12 April 2010"

Beskryf jou musiek in vyf woorde.
Lady rock with an edge.

Janie is a talented female singer-songwriter / solo artist from the Helderberg area, Western Cape. Currently residing in Cape Town, she’s making her mark on the live circuit in the Mother City and surrounding winelands and Boland areas with her first 3 singles both reaching No. 1 on various charts in SA, both on radio & television.

Janie has been performing since the tender age of 12. When she was younger, she used to climb up on the stage after her big brother's school plays and she would sing and perform to parents and guests.

As a singer/songwriter her most recent journey started off in a studio in New Town, Johannesburg [Darkstar Studios] with Kevin Leicher (Arno Carstens, Josie Fields) producing and recording her debut album, ‘I Remember, released in March 2011 and it's already making waves globally. On this album Janie explores the various genres she has grown up with and sends the listener on a roller-coaster ride of rock, pop and folk/acoustic rock songs.

A music video was been released on MK and on MNET HD for her first single, "Feels Like". This song was playlisted on various radio stations around the country. It reached the No. 1 position on PUKfm's Top 30 Chart in May 2010 which also went to No. 1 on the Top 10 University Chart on Studio 1 on MK in the same week.

Her second single, "The Meaning" made it to No. 1 on the Homebrew Top 10 on KFM 94.5/Highveld 94.7 in March 2010. It has also been playlisted on a couple of Ryan Seacrest's Shows for KFM and Highveld. Her 3rd single "This Love", reached No.1 on PUK FM in September 2011.

Janie has been playing with popular acts such as aKING, Ard Matthews, Farryl Purkiss, Plush, Joshua Grierson, Mr. Cat & The Jackal and she performed at the first Cape Town Folk & Acoustic Music Festival at The CTICC and was hand picked by Plush to open for them at the kyknet Backsberg Picnic Concerts on Sunday 18 December 2011.

With the promise of a great career, Janie is more surely than slowly finding her calling in the folk-pop & alternative country environment while charming audiences with a captivating voice and heartfelt performances, especially as of late, as the bro-&-sis unplugged duo... 'Janie & The Beard'.
