Bio
MORE THAN YOU WANTED TO KNOW
Januar [yah-new-wahr], which is Icelandic for January, is a lo-fi band with a sound that continues to defy stereotypes and definitions. With just two acoustic guitars and a minimal drum set, Januar has combined the sounds of Starflyer 59, Mojave 3, and Low to form a stripped down, yet ethereal, sound that is all its own. Instead of using guitar effects, Januar relies on intricate harmonies and intertwined guitar parts to paint their sonic landscape
BLAST FROM THE PAST
Januar began (appropriately enough) in January 2002, when Jeremy Burbick (guitar/vocals), Amy Burbick (guitar/vocals), and Katie Aikins (drums/percussion/vocals) formed an acoustic trio out of the ashes of their former, atmospheric-rock band, Breathing Eve. Januar added percussionist Patty Holland in 2003, and Patty switched to the drum set in early 2004, when Katie moved (to Iceland, Pennsylvania, and then Atlanta). Even though Januar performs mostly as a trio, Katie continues to record and perform with the band a couple times a year.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT JANUAR
"Etched with melancholy and an understated, pulse-like percussion, tracks like "Heaven's Gate" and "Fool's Gold" hum with hypnotic open chords and the airy harmonies of spouses Jeremy and Amy Burbick....[The Fall EP] is tempered by a humble earnestness that captivates - that is, when it's not stealing breath. -Jason Hellor Westword
"On their upcoming EP, The Fall, Januar produces a beautiful web of sleepy melodies and bright lullabies. This EP is soothingly atmospheric, quickening the paces at opportune times, but never coming off as pretentious or overwhelming. [Januar's] acoustic guitars work as catalysts for sucha unique vocal sound, and he drumming patters like a sonic heartbeat.
-Bree Kutz Kaffeine Buzz
"The Fall, a short disc of gentle dreamy, acoustic guitar-based rock...features the delicate, feathery vocals of married couple Jeremy and Amy Burbick."
The Onion 17-23 March 2005
