Bio

Janus Code is a Providence-based indie folk rock band. Their music can be described as a funky, folksy, bluesy, country, punk pop exploration of where rage and hope clash and combine. Drawing from diverse influences and experiences, Janus Code expands genres and refuses to commit solely to any category, using whatever they can to express and inspire.

Made up of members Laura the RockStar (vocals, guitar, harmonica, percussion), Mary Saunders (Vocals, guitar, bass, percussion), Brian Robert (drums, percussion) and Hiatt Knapp (bass), Janus Code seeks to enrage, inspire, entertain, connect, and motivate diverse audiences through any means necessary.

Musical influences include Ani Difranco, Garth Brooks, Ira Gershwin, Doria Roberts, Fenix TX, Skunk Anansi, No Doubt, Will Hogue, Patty Griffin, The Ataris, Melissa Ferrick, The Kickback Band, Boz Scaggs, Miles Davis, Grateful Dead, PFunk, Les McCann, Eddie Harris, Stravinsky, Bob Dylan, Rick James, My Dog ‘Joey’, John Stewart, Will Ferrell, Dismemberment Plan, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Tracy Chapman, The Allman Brothers, the blow, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Doc Watson, Monica, Pat Metheny, Bonnie Raitt, Rainer Maria, Redbait, Michael Hedges, Elvis, Kojo and the What, Podunk, and so on and so forth.

Spanning and challenging lines of genre, age, sex, gender, sexuality, and race, Janus Code embodies and utilizes seeming opposites and creates from them a new and vibrant style of music all their own.
