"You Are [TMN PREMIERE]"

We have the unique pleasure of hearing hundreds of stories a week. Hundreds of emails a day come across our screen, all of which are sharing a small piece of their life with us. Whether it be whimsical and light-hearted, dark and gloomy, or incredibly uplifting, we get a chance to hear more than just music. We get a chance to hear about people’s lives through their art. Today marks one of the more remarkable stories we’ve come across, as we take a deeper look into Jared Wohl.

Having previously worked with Wohl on his initial project, Farewell Luna, we had never known any of his backstory, until now. Eight months ago, this New Jersey native laid in the transplant unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital recovering from a traumatic surgery leaving him with only 35% of his liver. Just two years earlier, he had sat in the same hospital, undergoing extensive testing, which would reveal whether or not he could save his brother’s life. Cameron, Jared’s brother, has been living with a chronic, potentially fatal disease (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis) for over a decade. The brothers soon realized that in addition to sharing the same birthday three years to the day, they would soon share something much more significant. On February 11th 2014, Jared successfully donated 65% of his liver to Cameron.

Going through a life experience like Jared did is sure to incite powerful life changes, which is why he has decided to reintroduce himself as a singer-songwriter, only this time, as himself. While he had a strong following under his previous moniker, the gravity of becoming a living organ donor, and inevitably saving his younger brother’s life, gave songwriting an entirely new meaning.

The title track for his new EP, which can be found on their upcoming documentary (trailer below), is premiering today here on The Music Ninja. Wohl once again reminds us of why we were drawn to him in the first place, effortlessly displaying his stunning vocal tone and range. Set to the backdrop of energetic percussion, some light and glowing guitar work, and a steady bassline “You Are” instantly hooks the listener in, commanding attention for the full five minute tune. While the focus on vocals is heavy in the beginning, the instrumentals ultimately catch up, leading way to a soulful outtro that leaves a lasting impression.

After you’ve listened through, take a moment to watch the trailer for the Wohl brother’s documentary below, which will ultimately shed light on their newly formed foundation, The Wave Set. - The Music Ninja

"July's Breaking Artists"

In an attempt to find peace within himself and inspire others the way musicians have inspired him, Jared Wohl created the tortured optimism that is Farewell Luna; music that weighs heavy on your soul and rests blissfully within your heart. Due to hard work and determination, Farewell Luna was picked to open for Sublime with Rome and Pennywise at The Stone Pony, a historic location. The Stone Pony opened its doors in 1974 and has since become one of the world’s best known music venues, located in Asbury Park, NJ. Here’s what Farewell Luna had to say about how it felt to win this opportunity:

“Amazing, surreal, and list goes on and on. To be included on the same bill as one of the bands I grew up idolizing is a very cool feeling. I do wish Bradley Nowell was still alive since his music & voice has been such an inspiration to me. Nevertheless, Rome is the man and has definitely done him justice!” - Jared Wohl - ReverbNation

"Jared Wohl Wins the Hertz Movin' Music Original Song Contest"

A note from Metric on winning the contest: Congratulations to Jared Wohl, a strong lead singer and even more so, a believable one. His ability to carry the song from the start vocally without much support instrumentally shows talent. When the chorus does kick in the added instrumentation only strengthens the song without compromising its sentiment. There's not too much paint on this canvas and the colors are discernible and vibrant. The breakdown flows nicely into a pre-chorus, naturally teasing the anticipated chorus-outro. There is a great mix of song structure, melody and production in this work. All very smart and simple, kudos to Jared Wohl. - Indaba Music

"Jared Wohl - Dead in the Water (Ellie Goulding Cover)"

A man and his guitar is a beautiful thing. A man with a captivating voice, sitting along a fence, giving all he has to cover Ellie Goulding’s “Dead in the Water” is an even more beautiful thing. We at TMN are huge fans of the highly talented Jared Wohl, or as he is better known, the voice and musical skills behind Farewell Luna. Wohl has added his laid back Indie/Alternative sound to give this Goulding song a soothing calm feeling, one where you can close your eyes and really hear every lyric in the piece. Many artists attempt to cover a Goulding song, it is something to aspire to for many singers. Wohl does an amazing job of capturing the original feeling of the piece while adding his own whimsical touch and the video carries a certain touch of blissfulness.

Bio

After donating a portion of his liver to save his younger brother's life back in February of last year, Jared Wohl has quite the story to tell. As a self-taught, singer songwriter, Jared’s music speaks vivaciously through influences of soul/blues and is evident of an upbringing listening to Motown and other oldies. Performing and releasing his debut solo EP under the name "Farewell Luna" over the past two years, Jared felt that there was no better time than the present to re-introduce himself as a singer/songwriter. Only this time as himself.

Clayton Warwick of TheMusicNinja.com describes Jared Wohl’s music as “soulful tunes that are dripping with emotion, passion, and vocal ranges reminiscent of Adam Levine.” Likened to such artists as Allen Stone, John Mayer, James Morrison, & Graffiti6. This past year, his debut single “By The Morning” received notable accolades such as the grand prize for the Hertz Movin’ Music Original Song Contest and an opening slot for Sublime with Rome at the history-rich venue The Stone Pony. Dubbed as one of ReverbNation’s ‘Breaking Artists’, Wohl has since then teamed up with top-notch industry musicians such as Sean Hurley, Aaron Sterling & Andy Burton (John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw, John Legend, Robin Thicke), and and has release "You Are EP", his highly anticipated new album.
