Californian comedian Jarrod Mac will play his first show in Canada next week as he flies to the Swan City for a special Fundraising Comedy Night sponsored by Grande Prairie Voice for Life.
"I'm pretty excited. How's the weather?" he asked in a phone interview from California last week.
At the young age of 22, Mac is an up and coming performer with more than just comedy up his sleeve.
"Basically you're going to see some hilarious comedy, some mind-blowing illusions and a show that's kind of driven a little bit by music," he explained. "It's an interactive show as well because we bring people up from the audience and use them in the act as well. That's the cool thing about the show is that you enver know which direction it's going to go."
Mac has been practicing and performing magic since the age of seven, but it's only been in the last two years that he has made it his full-time career.
"I got into the comedy field and started adding some comedy to the magic about eight years ago and performed wherever I could," he explained. It was when he arrived in southern California to attend college that doors started opening up for the young performer and his dream of a full-time career was realized.
"It's always kind of a step of faith stepping out there and going into this business full time but it was definitely the right thing to do," he said.
Mac has been making a name for himself in the comedy circuit having performed at comedy clubs, theatres, universities, churches and special events across the United States.
Constantly evolving his act, Mac has a new show called The Encounter which he describes as "a Las Vegas style show" with a message at the end. "The goal is to create the highest quality of entertainment we possibly can to just draw people in, and to end it by tying it into something that has some meaning."
Having that message included in the show is something that is integral to Mac's show and his personal life. "That's basically why I do this," he said. "I want to create the highest standard of entertainment I possibly can, but if I can do it for a good cause or present a message that means something, that really does it for me." - ENCORE!
