"Pick Slidin'"

Even from the title, Hammerhead, one can ascertain that Jason Bodlovich's newest album is more forceful and driven than the average instrumental guitar release. Heavy percussion, funk grooves and technical precision uderscore the album's role as a conjurer of images. "Grazin,'" though not a country song still conjures haystacks and wooden fences, while "10 Rays" is the sound of sunrise, as magisterial as it gets. When Bodlovich sweeps his pick across the round-wound strings while picking out low notes on "Lumpy," it's just like skipping through sidewalk puddles. With Hammerhead, calling Bodlovich a jazz artist isn't enough anymore. He's on some other plane. - Sonoma County Bohemian

Bio

"Jason Bodlovich is a powerhouse of a musician. He possesses the kind of technique, heart and soul that makes everyone in the audience go "Wow!".
-Joe Satriani

Jason Bodlovich, "J", is an instrumental guitarist/songwriter who lives in the North Bay Area. With roots in rock and jazz studies to follow, J has developed a unique voice on guitar which crosses over into all worlds of music. Genre classification aside, the end result is simply exciting groove-based music capable of entertaining the masses in any venue. Eclectic is a good word to describe J's sound as he incorporates many styles into original compositions including rock, jazz, funk, blues, Brazilian and more. J's influences include the bluesrock stylings of Hendrix, Santana and Jimmy Page; The funk of The Meters, Parliament/Funkadelic & James Brown; the technical prowess of instrumental rock guitarist Jeff Beck, Steve Kimock & Joe Satriani; and jazz guitarists Julian Lage, Bill Frissel & John Scofield.

This group inception began with J's recording, "The Green Chair". J recorded all the instruments on Green Chair then solicited the tight rhythm section of Brian Rashap-bass and James Stafford-drums to perform live. All three attended Sonoma State together and quickly befriended each other. All three would also play in reggae band, Groundation, at different times. JBG is a high energy live show and showcases tight arrangements and interplay. Hammerhead features special guests: Jonathan Korty(Vinyl, Electric Apricot-organ, keys & harp; David Phillips(Tom Waits)-pedal steel & Patricio Angulo(Rumbacha, The Sonado Project)-percussion.
