Bio

By day, Dr. Jason Dodge is a Gynaecologic Oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Ontario. By night, he is a performing singer/songwriter with one album released, one in production, three music videos, and has topped the local and national ReverbNation pop charts. Raised in the small southwestern town of Forest, Ontario, Jason took to music early learning to play the accordion at age 3. He followed his passion for music in his spare time through University while pursuing his medical career by playing in the Mustang Marching Band as a percussionist.

A Western University medical school graduate, Jason completed his OB/GYN residency program and Gynaecologic Oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2001 and 2004, respectively, and currently practices at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He also completed his Maters of Education degree at OISE/UT in 2006. Jason is currently an assistant professor at the University of Toronto.

It wasn't until one of Jason's patients inspired him to write and play her a farewell song (It's So Hard To Say Goodbye) on the palliative care ward at the hospital that his musical talents again became known to others, reigniting his passion for performing and songwriting and persuading him to record his own music. This lead to Jason's first solo gig followed shortly by the release of his debut album "Life Between Pings" in October 2012.  The ensuing CD release party at the Opera House in Toronto and video release party at Revival Bar in Toronto to enthusiastic crowds ignited his desire to continue songwriting and performing. His music plays regularly on the Songwriter's Network on Neon Productions Radio and he has been featured on the Radio Humber show "Unsigned".

"My goal is simply to share my music with as many people as possible - hoping that it will bring to them the same sense of passion, peace and fulfillment it has brought to my life", Jason says. The emotional content and tone of his music touches on universal themes in our lives, making it easy to relate to on a personal level.

Another one of Jason's goals is to amalgamate his career in medicine and musical talent by performing at events to raise awareness and funds in support of cancer - which he has already successfully undertaken through participation in events such as the Canadian Foundation for Women's Health "Healthy Women - Healthy Future" Gala in Calgary (June, 2013) and the Shopper's Drug Mart "Weekend to End Women's Cancer" in Toronto (September, 2013) where he performed for almost 4000 walkers and staff including a song he wrote specifically for the event.

Inspired by artists including Adele, Billy Joel, Phil Collins, and Blue Rodeo, "Life Between Pings" is a collection of songs influenced by pop, rock, jazz and country genres. Clearly enjoying varied music has led to his success in writing and performing music within many genres (Pop, Country, Jazz, Blues) that makes it exciting for performers and audiences alike when he takes to the stage - whether just solo with his piano - or jamming with up to a 12-piece band. Jason has released three professional performance videos on YouTube including a cover of "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins and is currently in production of his sophomore album "Always", to be released in early 2014.

Hooking up with other talented musicians in the Toronto music scene has also provided energy to his recordings and shows (including Jason Wilson (organ), George Koller (upright bass), and Bob Egan from Blue Rodeo (slide guitar) who has recently confirmed to contribute to his upcoming album).
