Jason Lowe

With his musical depth and drifter’s spirit, Australian Jason Lowe sounds a lot older than his 21 years of age. Performing evocative ballads that are wide-eyed and weathered in equal measure at Australia’s major blues, roots, folk festivals and clubs, critical and public acclaim have not taken long to find him. His independent debut EP, “Before We Chase the Sky” garnered rave reviews.

In 2008, Lowe reached a creative turning point. He wrote an epic poem, Grey Cap Times, that poured from him effortlessly one evening. He had found his voice and realized his capabilities as a lyricist.

“Grey Cap Times was really a cosmic heave in a true direction,” says Lowe. “I knew what I needed to do.”

Almost immediately, Lowe set out for America and spent 2 months wandering landscapes far and wide and gleaning ideas from his shifting environment. Following his heart, he had no plan beyond the booking of his return flight.

“I just needed to go,” enthuses Lowe. “Instinctively, I knew my spirit would gain a great deal. It was a quest for that experience—for some more essential growth and wisdom. From desert to evergreen, mountain to stream, I was finding home.”

A few months after his return to Australia, Jason was honoured with that country’s ABC Music Awards for “Best Musician” and “Best Male Vocal.”

Through his music, Lowe focuses on the plight of our planet, feeling a deep connection with the wilderness and stating simply that his “religion is nature.”

This burgeoning talent has now completed his debut album, appropriately titled Grey Cap Times. In this timeless collection of folk songs, released in Australia, Lowe performs evocative ballads that brilliantly showcase his earthy vocals and elegant instrumentation.
