The Closest Thing To Heaven On Earth

Written By: Jason Wilder Evans

Angel lived in a small town
She liked where she lived but she didn’t want to hang around
A daughter of a preacher and me just a common man

We went together for a while until her parents said, “That’s enough”
Then we went our separate ways

College days we were far away
We didn’t see much of each other back then
Only when she came home on the weekend

And even then there was still a spark
It wasn’t the devil
It must be the love in our hearts

And she was my little Angel
I could see heaven shining in her eyes
It was love on the weekend
God creates miracles
She’s the closest thing to heaven on earth

We would get dressed up to go into town
But we would never make it out the door
Her parents said, “This love would never last”.
And it’s been ten years a day ago

Even now there is still a spark
It sure ain’t the devil
It must be the love in our hearts

And she is my little Angel
I can see heaven shining in her eyes
It is love on the weekend
God creates miracles
She’s the closest thing to heaven on earth

Come Home Soon

Written By: Jason Wilder Evans

My daddy got drafted Army ‘68
He served his time and country
He did not hesitate

Then he got a call
One cold dark winter day
Silence was on the end of the line
Tears fell down there was no other way

Come home son
Come home soon
Your daddy’s gone
And we miss you
You’ve been gone
For way to long
Come home son soon

I had to be like my daddy in each and every way
So I joined the Army a cold dark winter day
Spring became summer then fall became cold
When I got a call telling me to come home

Come home son
Come home soon
Your momma’s gone
And we miss you
You’ve been gone
For way to long
Come home son soon

I never got to know my mom or dad
Just as well as I should
But I know deep my soul they loved me
All they could

My daddy got drafted Army ‘68
He served his time and country
He did not hesitate

In my rear view, she was waivin' goodbye
C G
Please honey baby don't you cry
B7 C
I said as I waived with a tear in my eye
G B7
In my side view, she was standin' alone
C G
Please hurry baby come back home
B7 C
She said to me on the cellular phone

Lord, I never crossed that line
I never been the cheatin' kind
So when she told me her little white lie
She said, she never meant for my heart to break
And Tellin' was her only mistake
So much for walkin' softly on this heart of mine

In my rear view, she was waivin' goodbye
Please honey baby don't you cry
I said as I waived with a tear in my eye
In my side view, she was standin' alone
Please hurry baby come back home
She said to me on the cellular phone

I hope her guilty conscience is haunting her now
And she thinks that I'll turn around
But I ain't no fool and I aint no rodeo clown
Wantin' nothing more to do with her
I tossed the phone in the dirt
Peddle to the metal, I kept my truck in drive

In my rear view, she was waivin' goodbye
Please honey baby don't you cry
I said as I waived with a tear in my eye
In my side view, she was standin' alone
Please hurry baby come back home
She said just before I tossed that cellular phone

When I left, I told her not to be sad
And that I would not be mad
You see, I'm the one who's leaving a better man
But before I left in my pick up truck
I asked here for one more...

In my rear view, she was waivin' goodbye
Please honey baby don't you cry
I said as I waived with a tear in my eye
In my side view, she was standin' alone
Please hurry baby come back home
She said just before I tossed that cellular phone
