Bio

Growing up on the rough streets of Pleasant Grove (Dallas) Texas isn't easy for any child. But to Jasun Lopez, it was just everyday life. Jasun found music early on in life and has never really let it leave. He had started playing drums in the sixth grade and he began writing poetry. He found that he had a way with words. That's when he decided to buy a guitar and a Mel Bay book of guitar chords and put music to these words that came so naturally to him. It wasn't long before he penned his first ever song "Since You Took Your Love Away." But that was just the beginning........

After moving a little south of Dallas at the ripe old age of seventeen, he quickly found work playing drums for a local country band. He says, "While most kids were partying after prom in hotel rooms, I had a gig at a local dive bar 20 miles away." It was then he knew what he was destined to do. Following several gigs behind the drumkit with different bands, he decided it was time to move out front. So, with guitar in hand and some of the best pickers the tri-county area had to offer he formed a rockin' country band known as Doin' Without. For years he played seedy little juke joints and dives to just get his name out. And get it out did he ever. It wasn't long before he was the top drawing bands in East Texas. Merchandise was selling out after each show and they were getting people as far away as Louisiana to come watch them play. But after a while, everything became so mundane. It seemed like his life was on repeat. Show after show. It was all the same to him.

On New Year's Eve night in 1999 he had made the announcement to his band that he was leaving country music to pursue a career in rock-n-roll. A short five years later he found himself playing drums in the one of the biggest acts in the D/FW area. A whole different life followed. "I seen myself changing. And not for the better. I loved the lifestyle and don't get me wrong, I'll be a rocker til the day I die. But the dangers of that lifestyle, accompanied by the absence of my daughter in my life from touring, started making me rethink my choices" he said. And now six years later..he is back to where he all started. To his roots. His love. Good old honky-tonk beer joint music.

"As I begin my journey back into this music genre, I realized how the years have made me wiser and stronger" says Jasun. "I can put my life into the lyrics of these songs I write and make each person feel where I am coming from and where I have been." Make no mistake, this young man can still get rowdy and get down with the best of them. But I'll let you judge for yourselves. Either way, let it be known that there are great things on the horizon for Jasun Lopez.
