Bio

Javier and the Bear was formed in the fall of 2003, after Hans, Tim and Dan left their current groups. Hans and Tim played together in Hammerhead Sharks, a shilly-shally rock group, and Harmony Joyride, an 80’s rock cover band. Dan Zima played guitar in a band called the Tough Get Going, a blues and rock review. Joe O’Connor was recruited to play drums. Hans and Tim knew Joe from their younger days in a rock band class taught by Curt Morrison.
After developing original and cover material in late 2003, Javier and the Bear began playing in their hometown of Oak Park. In March of 2004 they recorded a four song demo at New Deal Studios. The band continued to perform throughout the summer of 2004, at graduation parties and at the Ashbury Coffeehouse in Willow Springs.
Javier and the Bear were put on hold when the members went off to college in the fall of 2004. They managed to perform in one of the dormitories at the U of I in October. During the winter break the band recorded a second demo using a 4-track analog mixer. The tapes from the original recordings were then mastered by Chris Neville at 916 Studios.
Javier and the Bear is a young group of talented, determined musicians who have paid their dues rehearsing and recording. They hope to prove themselves in the Chicago rock scene, offering an explosive live show where the music comes first.
