Bio

It’s often said that music is nothing more than feelings and emotions. To hear Jaya’s Journal lets you know how true that statement is. Jaya’s Journal gives you a combination of her life experiences along with a blend of R&B/Hip-Hop/Soul/Pop that most can feel as well as relate to. Born on the South Side of Chicago Jaya has been influenced by different genres of music ranging from R&B, Hip-Hop and Reggae to Rock, Jazz and House Music. She decided at an early age she wanted to sing yet she didn’t tell anyone, she was shy. Singing around the house and in church she didn’t find joy, she found the hunger for more that every true artist has within. Asked to describe her first performance she told me “It was in the eighth grade, a friend signed me up for a school talent show without me knowing, the crowd gave me a standing ovation, I was hooked”.

Working with producer Harvy Allbangers Jaya has not only given us a Journey into her life but also insight into our own. Her songs touch on a range of subjects from love, having fun, the struggles of the industry and something all women can relate to, your girls ex trying to push up on you. “When listening to Jaya’s Journal you share the breath I breathe with every lyric and the beat of my heart with every track”. To understand this listen to her songs such as “I Miss U” which speak to the working couple, “How I Do”, the kicking it song, “Down For You” where she lets her man know she has his back and “Thank You”, the title speaks for itself. I took my advance copy of Jaya’s Journal to the one place where I could get the truth and confirm everything I heard and felt thru our interview, the Beauty Shop. I said nothing to the people there, simply had my stylist put the CD on, then it happened. Heads nodding, bodies moving and the infamous question “Who is that, didn’t I hear that on radio” Test marketing to some, confirmation to others.

Jaya has built a support base not just because of her music but because of her work ethic and self promotion. What’s important is when you hear Jaya’s Journal you will know that you know that feeling, you’ve had those emotions…welcome to her world, she is Jaya.
