Paul Grettenberger (Paul G, 'G' Jay B) has been a singer/songwriter for about 7 years. around the age of 16 he dove in the profound art of rapping.
influences include Kanye west, Eminem, lil Wayne and most recently, Drake.
'G's music has had a growth. at the tender age of 9 he was taken from his home in detroit and moved to lansing where at the age of 13 he was adopted.
"music comes from a dark place" G says of his writing experience.
"i feel like to be a good artist, a good anything in the entertainment business, you have to tell a story, a dark story."
And that's what he does. from his remake of Beethoven 9th, "touch the sky" which talks about his failed attempted to get signed to an indie label, to his leaked club hit "BooM" that depicts a cliche night out, its no doubt that every song tells a story.
"one thing to value about my music is that its real. I Rap about things that actually happen, not things that could or should happen, and although my music doesn't contain explicit lyrics it is still very real."
Most of G's music centers around his undying dream to make it as a recording artist. another Good chunk could be devoted to his love life and the rest? well as unpredictable as the wind.
"its important to keep it kid friendly. the message i want the world to hear isnt F this and F that, its a message of 'you can do this, don't give up on your dreams because you can only hurt yourself' the minute you start swearin, all they hear is swearin. i like to write about what matters"
G has always had a soft spot for kids.
"I always said i want to help the kids. i have a story to tell. all people ever want to know is that they arent alone. the minute they here a story like theirs they feel connected and secure. when you have kids that feel like they are part of something they are less likely to misbehave or to act out or do things harmful to themselves. i want to be the voice for the unheard and the ear for those who are afraid to speak."
