Bio

The JayCalo story begins in 2010 where Ajay “Jay” Johnson and Jason “Calo” Roth both discovered that the sum of their talents was definitely greater as a team, than as individuals. This summation is what makes JayCalo one of the hottest Hip Hop / R&B duos this side of the Pacific. Whether you like smoothed out R&B, hard-hitting bass lines, or dome splitting rhymes, JayCalo will take you on a musical journey, which is one of a kind.

“Music is life’s perfect soul mate”. Many words could be used to describe this melodic magician and producer extraordinaire, however, only one word can describe him best: Prolific. One half of JayCalo and member of Thaitanium Entertainment’s production team, Jay had recently been responsible for 2 hit singles for Thailand’s premier rap group Thaitanium. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has chosen to endorse one of the songs, “Mahanakorn”, featuring Da Endorphine. Born in New York and raised in Canton, Ohio, Ajay comes from a large musical family where he was always surrounded by music from an early age. He became hooked to music when his uncle would all him to take the microphone and stand in for singers in his band. Ajay and his family eventually formed the group Kango, got signed to a record deal, and toured the world. When asked about his favorite memory in music, Ajay reflectively smiles and says: “Watching Michael Jackson on T.V… and hearing my own song on the radio!”

Of Puerto Rican and German Heritage Jason “Calo” Roth was born in Pennsylvania, raised in Tampa, and honed his lyrical ability in Queens. This raspy voiced MC takes no prisoners when he spits his venomous flow. Arguably one of the best MC’s in Asia, Calo has a delivery that represents the diversity of his upbringing. With is mother being a jazz singer, and his father being a drummer, Jason grew up with a powerful music influence. When Calo was eighteen, he moved to Queens, New York and started working with his childhood friend Way Prinya, who is a member of Thailand’s premier Hip Hop group Thaitanium. As an integral member of Thaitanium and an MC for the Bangkok Invaders, Calo has toured across the world. He has opened up for major recording artists Flo-Rida, Jay-Z, NAS, 50 Cent, Far East Movement and Akon. To keep his skills on point and ear to the streets, you can find Calo holding it down as an MC in all major clubs in Bangkok and throughout Southeast Asia.

JayCalo recently signed with Universal Music Thailand and released their debut album “Tha Intro” digitally on September 24, 2012
