"Better Off Alone" - to be released August 2010

Tucked away in a basement home-studio, nestled in the snow-covered fields of Illinois farmland, you’ll find the 29-year old Jay David. The singer/songwriter took on the truly independent task of his latest project by producing, recording, and mixing the album along with playing all the instrumentation by himself.

After spending a few years away from music to coach college distance runners and compete at a national level in Marathon races, Jay could no longer resist the muse that had haunted him since his early teen years. This muse has already taken him around the country as a solo artist and a Nashville, TN side musician for a number of country and pop artists. Even leading to sporadic stints as a studio producer.

However, it was when he was faced with his hiatus from his full-time music career that Jay saw the development of his songwriting that lead to his new disc, “Better Off Alone”, slated for a fall-2010 release.

The upcoming LP mixes David’s early introduction to songwriting through folk artists such as John Gorka, David Wilcox, Bob Dylan, and Bebo Norman with his Nashville gathered influences of Ryan Adams, Joe Purdy, Jeffrey Foucault, and the Kings of Leon. These combine with pop sensibility of Glen Phillips/Toad the Wet Sprocket, Brian Vander Ark, and even the Beatles (who doesn’t claim the Beatles as an influence?). In the end there is a beautifully familiar sound to a unique sense of songwriting that brings the listener to an understanding of all that such music is intended to communicate.

There is a great amount of anticipation as Jay David prepares to emerge from the depths of the basement and step onto the road in support of “Better Off Alone”.
