Jay Double Okay

Based in New York, Jay Double Okay is an electronic music duo that is equal parts music and visual art. The music combines elements of rock, hip hop, dance, electronica and house -- what members Jeff M. and Sam L. classify as thoughtful techno.

“We don’t play typical dance music,” Jeff M. says. “There’s more to it than just oonts-oonts-oonts, as fun as that can be. Beats, hooks and melodies are just the beginning of what we do, not the end. ”

Jay Double Okay’s visual style adds another layer of complexity to the music by interpreting the emotion into video and images. Jay Double Okay asks the audience to listen with eyes open. A handful of studio versions of songs are available online as are live versions of select tracks. To ensure a different experience at their live show versus the studio work, the live sets can be described as a mixtape, with each song reinvented and remixed with other Jay Double Okay songs and music from various artists.

“I think we fit better in a concert environment versus a dance club because we perform original music versus playing other artists’ tracks,” Jeff M. says. “But we’ll play anywhere that people want to dance.”

Jay Double Okay breaks new ground, and is more than just sights and more than just sounds. By marrying multiple genres under an electronic umbrella, this daring duo eludes easy categorization yet creates music that is recognizable, thoughtful and danceable.
