DJ Jay Goodwill

A maestro for the people!

It has been said that DJ Jay Goodwill puts the “fun” back in dance floor entertainment. This “gentleman on the decks” musical intuitiveness always has his audience wanting more. Not only is Goodwill a forward-thinking DJ, he has it down to a science, simple yet complex. His heartbeat is with his dance floor and they respond in a joyous rapture whether he is working the crowd with his unique style of bending the sound or dropping the tune that emits thunderous yells and applause.

A native of New Brunswick, N.J., Goodwill moved with his family to South River, N.J. where he spent the majority of his formative years. Surrounded the artistic output of his siblings and family members who were coiffeurs, musicians, and fashion designers; each one had a profound effect on his distinctive ear for recognizing good music. Exposure to a healthy diet of Funk, Rock, R&B, new wave, 80’s Synth Pop and Soul laid the foundation that would lead him to the world of dance music and nightlife entertainment.

Goodwill’s foray into DJing began out of sheer concern for the party patron and chasing the girls! However, he noticed that the DJ’s at the clubs/parties he attended seemed not to pay attention to the dance floor. After seeking advice from several noteworthy DJ’s like Tee Alfred, King Britt, Josh Wink and Trevor Lamont; Goodwill, with limited funds started purchasing DJ equipment at Goodwill Thrift shops (hence the name DJ Jay Goodwill!). He practiced constantly, honing his skills day and night, throughout the summer into the next. When he felt he was ready to spin for an audience, he sent a rave promoter in Columbus, Ohio a press kit with a mixed CD. Within a month, the promoter wanted to add him to his DJ lineup. He offered no pay but airfare, Goodwill negotiated a good timeslot in lieu of a fee. He opened up for Lenny Dee in the techno room and was featured right before Derrick Carter in the house room.

From there, Goodwill was hired as one of the resident DJ’s for Dead by Dawn, a rave music company based in Philadelphia, PA. Later, he started spinning with the X-LAX DJ’s: Atomizer & Mr. Fun. He, along with Trevor formed a production company called Zenith and hosted several very successful events: Bounce, Love Bomb, Secret Service and Wax Factory. There after he went solo and began to work raves and house music events across the country. Goodwill was also featured in the San Diego, CA based dance music magazine, “The Messenger”. His energetic DJing style, technique, and music programming often described as “Derrick May meets Tony Humphries” has impressed upon electronic music Diaspora with much fanfare. From soulful house to deep techno to soulful electronic, DJ Jay Goodwill is the maestro for the people, bringing the good news of just having fun!
