JAY HARMON

JAY HARMON

BandJazzR&B

A very talented saxophone artist with a nice gift for creating very enjoyable original melodic R&B & Urban Jazz music. Jay has been called "The Workingman's Jazz Artist" because his music seems to touch a common chord in everyone who hears it.

Biography

Jay was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, but now he and his family make their home in the Cleveland area. Asked about his first start in music, Jay says "I started on bass, then sax, then started my first band. I picked up the other music skills in my high school, Linden McKinley, in Columbus Ohio.

I started playing the sax professionally with the popular local band "The Crowd Pleasers" doing shows in Columbus and in popular venues all around the state. A major influence in my musical life was my grandmother who played a lot of Gospel music. Also my mother, father and brother who were all musically gifted. I looked up to my older brother who played the sax and I wanted to be like him. So, I started playing the sax. My peers were all into playing the drums at the time, so it was a different kind of move to make.

William Carter, A high school teacher at Linden McKinley taught me a lot about playing the sax. Steve Giteline, now with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, showed me how to hit high notes and how to fill up the horn with sound.
I was also greatly influenced as a young teenager, by the music of the Beatles.

After my musical horizons grew a bit and I started getting more into the sax, I was greatly influenced by the music of Miles Davis, George Duke, and other jazz greats.

I love playing the sax as a preformer, hearing the crowd reaction to the first notes and the excitement of people enjoying what I play.
I have played in many venues, even the Apollo in New York, so I am very comfortable entertaining all size crowds.

I put out my first record,"Now It's You & Me" back in 1978, and started playing solo live when the new digital technology became available to me."
Jay sincerely hopes that people will get to hear his new CD project, purchase it and truly enjoy it!

Open up my Window

Written By: Jay Harmon/Marcus Harmon

Open Up My Window

Open up my window
See what nobody knows
No one ever got that far inside my mind but God & I
Open up my window
See what nobody knows
No one ever got that far inside my mind but God & I

What you see when you look at me
Open up my window
See what nobody knows
Out there it's so clear
All my promises appear
All the pain-pain slips away
Love has come to save the day

And you can
Open up my window
See what nobody knows
No one ever got that far inside my mind but God & I
Open up my window
Climb inside my soul
Fill this empty hole with love & wisdom, God & Hope above

If you could read all my thoughts
See what's deep in my heart
Then we would never be apart
But you must understand
I am always a man
So I see what's in you
So much love & so much truth

So you can
Open up my window
See what nobody knows
No one ever got that far inside my mind but God & I
Open up my window
Climb inside my soul
Fill this empty hole with love & wisdom, God & Hope above

Open up my window
See what nobody knows
I never thought I'd have a lady just like you in my life
Come & get to know me
Then you can show me
That you are the girl i want to be my wife

Open up my window
See what nobody knows
No one ever got that far inside my mind but God & I
Open up my window
See what nobody knows
No one ever got that far inside my mind but God & I

Now It's You & Me

Written By: Jay Harmon

Now It's You & Me

We had made a deal
You said it was for real
But you took the groove away
Only set me back a day
You made it plain to me
Said you was right for me
Seems you were lying -you see
Hey-all the drama's gone
Now it's you and me

You said you're my corner
And then you pulled a boner
I take it with a grain of salt
Cause it's really not your fault
You made it plain to me
Said you was right for me
Seems you were lying -you see
Hey-all the drama's gone
Now it's you and me

Rollin'

Written By: Jay Harmon

Rollin'

We rollin,rollin'
And we aint turnin' round( 4x)

We gonna keep on rollin' on
Rollin'snappin'till the break of dawn
Layin' down the track & the beat
If by chance we down
God's soldiers are all around
Gonna win this war- gonna take the heat
Drawing on the power of the Blood
Leanin'on the love of God
We takin' back our home & family
Black Man stand up & be a man
Givin' to life all you can
Make our side of town all it can be

Cause we Rollin'

When we slack & turn our back
Somebody takes our life force back
Then we’re cryin' why me- why me?
So if I want to go to church
And pray to God who made this earth
Stand back & let me-let me be

Cause we Rollin'
