Biography

Jay Matsueda is a singer/songwriter in Los Angeles who writes, records and performs unique, jazz-infused Adult Contemporary music both solo and with a band comprised of his L.A. friends. His voice has been described as haunting and unique - a blend of greats like Tim Buckley, Cat Stevens, Tracy Chapman, and Morrissey. The lyrics most often describe unscripted, painful situations and serve as an exploration when there is no "right" thing to do. They are crafted with "lyrical independence," meaning that they can be enjoyed as poetry without music. Yet, Matsueda's melodic musical undercurrents are so compelling in his songs that listeners can get swept away by the tunes as easily as they can derive meaning in his messages. Past performances include having opened for Robyn Hitchcock and Peter Buck of R.E.M. at the Key Club and playing all over Los Angeles in small venues, plus isolated performances in Chicago, San Francisco, Hartford and Tokyo. Midsummer's Eve

Written By: JAY MATSUEDA

Midsummer's Eve by JAY MATSUEDA
------------------------

It's midsummer's eve and
my heart's on my sleeve and
I'm drowning in a green sea

As slow as the sun descends to winter
is as slow as
i give up my last breath to the depths

It's not my fault I feel this way
I did nothing
It's all a mistake

It's midsummer's eve and it's
hard to conceive of your power
It controls me

As sure as I am trapped within your lair,
You're unaware
But if you knew, it wouldn't mean you'd care

It's not my fault I feel this way
I did nothing
It's all a mistake

With cancerous heart and orange flowers, I say...

It's not my fault I feel this way
I did nothing
It's all a mistake

It's not my fault I feel this way
I did nothing
It's all a mistake

Nothing, but try and escape

Nothing Inside of Me

Nothing Inside of Me by JAY MATSUEDA
--------------------

I could stare in your eyes till I starve to death
Inhale your perfume till my last breath
"I don't believe that," is what you said.

"But I'm glad you like what you see 'cause there's nothing inside of me."

A stone's throw from you is a ways to go
A tough trail ahead through the thick of fallen snow
How can I help? You said, "I don't know..."

"But I'm glad you like what you see 'cause there's nothing inside of me.
No, there's nothing inside of me.
Well, I'm glad you like what you see 'cause there's nothing inside of me."

Why make me wait?
I just can't wait...
Why make me wait for you?
Why make me wait, love?
I just can't wait...
Why make me wait for you?
Why make me wait for you?

I could stare in your eyes
Could stare
Stare in your eyes

"I'm glad you like what you see, 'cause there's nothing inside of me.
'Cause there's nothing inside of me.
Well, I'm glad you like what you see 'cause there's nothing inside of me..."

"Don't Worry (You Already Hurt Me)"

Written By: Jay Matsueda

I don't know how you can
tell me huge untrue stories,
So I don't care what you think
of all those terrible things that I said

Oh now wait
Oh don't worry
Things you've already done
One-of-a-kind crazy ass things
Oh don't worry
Things you've done already hurt me

And I won't mind anytime
you call to lay your kiss upon me,
But please don't cry, little bird,
if I decide to flee the scene right afterward

Oh now wait
Oh don't worry
Things you've already done
One-of-a-kind crazy ass things
Oh don't worry
Things you've done already hurt me

And I don't know how you can
tell me the same lies all over again

Oh now wait
Oh don't worry
Things you've already done
One-of-a-kind crazy ass things
Oh don't worry
Things you've done already hurt me
Things you've done already hurt me
Things you've done already hurt me
