JAY O'SHEA
The whispers that have been building around the world about Jay O’Shea are threatening to become a roar. For this independent Nashville act (by way of Adelaide, Australia) there is a rare and remarkable aura surrounding the name.
Somewhere between Reba, Olivia Newton John and Bonnie Raitt, Jay is born.
Those who have experienced her emotionally-driven performances find themselves eagerly spreading the word about a striking singer with powerful original songs who connects deeply with her audiences and conjures a mesmerizing mood in the company of two guitarists, bass, piano and drums.
From her work as back-up singer and national support for INXS and Sir Tim Rice, to her unique original shows around the world, Jay has weaved a seductive spell that is striking, moving and unforgettable.
Jay has performed for fans in venues across the world - from the Metro in Sydney to the intimate confines of London’s Kashmir Klub, Bar Fly, Enterprise and China White. She has showcased at Los Angeles’ Hotel Café, Ghengis Cohen, Room 5 and Molly Malone’s round as well as New York’s Bitter End and Living Room. Nashville audiences have caught Jay at The Bluebird Café, The Basement, Blue Bar and The Rutledge, to name a few.
“The gigs I did in New York, LA and London last year made me realize that if it could fit in there it could fit in anywhere in the world,” says Jay about her decision to move to Nashville. “After living in London for two years, writing for London’s Warner Chappell division, playing and recording, I feel that the music is valid. It has a very strong essence. It’s believable because it’s honest. I have managed to stay true to myself as an artist and haven’t compromised. It’s something I am very proud of.”
The past year has been a whirlwind for Jay. Shortly upon moving to Nashville, Jay signed a publishing deal with THIS MUSIC/ WARNER CHAPPELL. She began writing a stockpile of songs with the likes of Dave Berg, Shawn Colvin, Kim Carnes, Mike Reid, Bobby Pinson, Tim Nichols, Connie Harrington, Shaye Smith and Josh Leo. The result is 5 songs which are currently on hold for REBA as well as one that is held for Kelly Clarkson’s upcoming album. She has gigged non-stop, gaining a solid fan base in Music City. In addition, her song “Rutinas” sky-rocketed to #1 in Spain.
“I think I’d be quite unbalanced if I wasn’t able to write songs,” muses Jay. “I’ve always believed that I am incredibly fortunate to be able to express feelings and emotions through music. It is an essential part of my make-up and truly a gift. My hope for my music is that whoever it may come across in the world, is that it emotes them in some way.”
