Finally recording their first CD, the band has been working hard since the new year. Playing three or four shows a month while still rehearsing twice a week keeps the boys on their toes. With gracious assistance from some good friends, the band has laid down eleven tracks at one of the top studios in Minneapolis. The name of the CD is currently being debated, but a couple suggestions are “Strike It” or “Lessons In Progressive Simplicity.”
There are many different bands and artists that have had an incredible impact upon jaysboatcar and their music. Jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, Django Reinhardt, and many others are a constant learning source for the band. Classic rock bands such as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd contribute greatly to their unique sound. Jazz rockers Frank Zappa and Steely Dan also continue to inspire the band with their quirky senses of humor and tight musical constructions.
Jaysboatcar has been playing live shows in Minneapolis, MN since April 2001. Playing local venues such as the Uptown Bar, Nomad Pub, O’Gara’s, Cabooze, Fine Line Music Café, Turf Club, and Mayslack’s Bar, has helped the band has gained a strong following. They also play out of the Twin Cities in Bemidji, Grand Rapids, St. Croix Valley,Wisconsin, and Spirit Lake, IA.
